Ms. Mayer graduated from the University of California, Davis with degrees in Political Science and Communications. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University School of Law with a Certificate in Public Interest and Social Justice.

Awards and Honors

During law school, Heather Mayer was recognized with the Award for Best Oral Advocate and the Pro Bono Award. 

Ms. Mayer is the recipient of the prestigious Witkin Award for Academic Excellence in Wills & Trusts, Advanced Legal Writing, Interviewing & Counseling, and for the Advanced Practice Clinic of the Northern California Innocence Project. She also earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in both Family Wealth Management and Community Property.

Practical Experience

Heather Mayer’s background includes working for both an estate planning law firm and a family law firm. Ms. Mayer is well-versed in all aspects of family law cases, including divorce, custody and support.  She is experienced in preparing estate plans, including advanced health care directives, grant deeds, wills, codicils, and trusts and she clerked in the Probate Department of the Sacramento Superior Court.

Ms. Mayer also worked in-house as an attorney for the Department of Health Care Services, this position helped her to better understand the intricacies involved in estate planning for Medi-Cal or Medicare beneficiaries.

The combination of Ms. Mayer’s academic and practical experience is the reason she is such an excellent advocate for her clients.  Together with her partner, Kristine Young, Heather Mayer is committed to compassionate, cost-effective, and well-informed legal representation.

Personable and Professional
My wife and I used her services through the legal program (ARAG) with the State of CA. The entire cost was covered by the legal program. She is very helpful and asked us lots of questions that we didn't think about. She made the process of getting a revocable trust far easier than I had anticipated. I highly recommend her.

Estate Planning Made Simple
I was thrilled to be able to work with Heater Mayer of Mayer & Young to do my estate planning. This was another thing that seemed more scary than it actually was. I had put it off for a long time since it seemed to scary to talk about death and health issues. Heather made me feel very comfortable through the process and after going over the options with me we determined that a living trust was the best option for me. Heather asked me lots of questions to make sure I had it all set up correctly and just the way I wanted it. She is so positive and upbeat it makes it much easier to deal with a difficult situation. Because of her experience with probate issues in court, she knows how to put together an estate planning portfolio that covers all of the bases and protects my assets and my family. I feel so much more at peace now knowing my family is taken care of if something happens to me. I highly recommend Heather for help with your estate planning.

Excellent service
I recently retained the services of Heather Mayer as my attorney to work on my financial legal needs. After carefully reviewing my situation with myself and my new wife, she quickly and clearly explained my options which allowed us to make solid plans for our future without spending inordinate amounts of time listening to legal financial terms and concepts we didn’t really need to know. Any questions we had were answered the same way, clearly and readily understandable. She has a gift for making clear things most of us are not clear about. Heather is wonderful
I had several attorneys to choose from for my divorce and I chose Heather Mayer and I am so glad I did. She was wonderful to work with in this very difficult time. She explained all processes and worked with me throughout the whole process. I highly recommend Heather. She also did my living trust and was, again, wonderful to work with on this. Highly Recommend
My wife and I just recently got married and purchased a new home together. An estate plan and trust was on our list of items to do. We did not know where to start. We set up an appointment with Heather and just had to answer some questions. In about 2 weeks after our initial appointment we had already received an email from Heather notifying us that our documents were ready for review and signatures. We could not believe how quickly and easy the whole process was. We both sleep better at night knowing where our assets will go if something were to ever happen to us. If you have kids this is not something you should wait on doing. Thank you Heather for all your help. We still hand out your business cards and would recommend you to our friends and family.

Professional, Prompt, and Efficient
I have been putting off creating a living trust for years. Now, I don't know why because Heather Mayer made it so easy. From start to finish, the trust was done in less than two weeks, and with only two meetings! Heather is extremely bright, efficient, organized, and prompt. She knows the laws, and any questions I asked were answered clearly and knowledgeably. A few days after we met, I received an email, and the trust was done, and ready for review. When I called or emailed, Heather responded, if not immediately, that same day. She is a top notch attorney, and I feel so lucky to have found her. You can be certain I give Heather nothing but the highest marks!

Wills and Trust
I recently used Mayer&Young for several important legal matters. Heather Mayer was highly knowledgable and efficient. The Best Attorney in Sacramento
My husband and I did not recognize the importance of having a will until our first child was born. We realized we did not have a care taker legally lined up to take custody of our son should anything ever happen to us. With this in mind we wanted to find someone who could educate us on creating a will. I can be quite the perfectionist so I called a long list of attorneys before I found Mayer & Young. We met with Heather Mayer and she was wonderful. She immediately put us at ease and answered my never-ending list of questions. Heather is articulate, experienced, and welcoming. I wouldn't recommend anyone else.

Let Heather do your living trust!
Heather was professional and wonderful to work with. She gave us great ideas to achieve what we really wanted in our trust. We had difficult family issues to resolve and she made it so easy and pleasant. Quick turnaround as well. I was dreading this process, but we were finished in an hour. Her fees we the most reasonable of any inquiries I made. We were really lucky to be referred to her.

Highly recommended
My husband and I used Heather Mayer with Mayer & Young to do our trust. We have been wanting to do this for a few years but kept putting it off for one reason or another. Heather made the process painless. She easily explained complicated legal terms to us in a way we could understand them. This helped us to make the best decisions in the preparation of the trust. When we had questions for Heather she quickly got back to us. In fact the turn around time for our trust was really quick.
