I am sharing my experience to help others avoid the same financial and emotional stress I endured. I hired Athina Powers for my divorce, and after a year and over $15,000 in fees, I ended up having to complete the paperwork myself to finalize my case. Communication & Preparation: The communication ...was, in my experience, non-existent. My emails and calls consistently went unanswered, to the point where I had to physically show up at the office just to get an update. Despite this lack of responsiveness, I continued to receive significant bills. On several occasions, I was sent documents meant for other clients, containing their confidential information, which was a major red flag regarding office professionalism. Competency & Attention to Detail: The legal drafts I received were riddled with errors. My name and address were incorrect, and I was repeatedly referred to as "the wife" despite being male. Beyond clerical errors, I believe her advice led to a catastrophic financial outcome. Due to what I view as a failure to properly evaluate property division and alimony, I estimate a loss of over $200k in potential alimony and a six-figure error in property valuation. Delays: My case was postponed for over a year. I was met with a constant stream of personal excuses—ranging from car issues to health emergencies—all while being billed for what I feel were delay tactics rather than progress. In the end, I did in three days what this firm could not do in twelve months. Final Verdict: If you are looking for an attorney who is prepared, detail-oriented, and communicative, my experience suggests you look elsewhere. I feel the billing was excessive for the results achieved—which were zero until I took over the filing myself. Run, don't walk.
