Hire Lisa!

I made over a hundred thousand dollar mistake by not hiring this woman! My ex husband had the nastiest attorney who dragged out my divorce for 4 years even though my ex was just a realtor, dating a stripper from Vegas (true story)... I have 3 children, and a home I paid for. My weak attorney told me ...to give up some of my 60/40 custody to 50/50 to make the process move faster... 4 years later, my loser ex husband was still falsifying his income at $40,000 gross, asking me for child support... I consulted with Lisa and because I was too close to trial date, I had to stick with who I had... but in meeting her, I received more strength, solid advice and determination than all my blood sucking attorney offered in years! Advocate for Justice

Today is the 6 month anniversary of getting custody of my daughter back, thanks entirely to Lisa Hughes and her excellent team who answered my call for help in the eleventh hour. I thank God for her daily. After a contentious divorce which lasted 2 years and ended in 2012, my ex moved away to Los... Angeles County in 2015 which was out of the jurisdiction of the Orange County courts. He didn't file a "move away order". That was OK with me, but when I moved with our daughter to Santa Barbara county almost a year later, I was served with an "emergency ex parte' hearing"...because it would be "too dangerous" for our daughter to continue living primarily in my care. The paternal grandmother with deep pockets and a need for control (sort of along the lines of Vito Corleon from the Godfather), decided to hire a fancy attorney and threw the book at me. Through half truths and full out lies, a declaration developed that would make any judge believe their awful accusations. To my horror, they managed to convince this particular judge. I was in hell. I foolishly represented myself at first because I thought the absurdity of the accusations and the fact that my ex didn't even live in Orange County would show the judge that this wasn't a logical move on his part, but more of a contol game. It didn't and she awarded temporary custody to him, who promised the court to move back to OC but never did. So our 14 year old daughter, in reality lived 5 months of her life in an empty apartment he rented for purposes of zoning for the new high school she would have attended had we not moved. He yanked our daughter from the school in Santa Barbara county, her 3rd day of high school and enrolled her back in OC, where neither parent lived. And the judge did not provide any visitation during this period of time. I was at his mercy. He almost convinced the judge to award custody to the grandmother who lives in a neighboring city, which is what they petitioned for. It was the worst time in my life. Given these circumstances, I had no choice but to call the only person I knew who could untangle this mess. She did. If you are even considering that you might be able to find justice in Orange County on your own, you are kidding yourself. You need experts. You need Lisa Hughes and her team to be your advocate and help navigate through what I experienced as a corrupt system. David Wald. Sarah Davidson. Melissa Gomez. Cori Stockman... I'm so grateful for all who fought for my daughter, but most of all Lisa, who stopped what she was doing and responded to my call with genuine compassion and a sense of urgency to help. She didn't mince words, but told me straight they were trying to take my daughter away might just succeed. I will never get over this experience, and I owe everything to Lisa Hughes.

Divorce

I hired Hughes and Hughes to represent me in my divorce from my husband in 2013. The case took two and a half years due to international issues and lack of cooperation from my ex. Throughout the entire ordeal Hughes and Hughes worked my case with brilliance, integrity, perseverance and genuine conce...rn for my well being. With last minute requests from the Judge, my legal team pulled out all the stops working my case until 1am the night before. Watching Lisa Hughes argue my case was truly something from the movies. After 5 days at the courthouse in the end, they won my case hands down! I will always be grateful for the firepower they brought to my case. A Class Act

Lisa Hughes is an exception to the rule--this is an attorney who keeps her word and simply holds everyone to the high standards she values and lives up to. She is no longer my attorney but she always will have my upmost respect. I have spent too much time in the courtroom, but I do know she is..., by far, the most intelligent (by miles) and the one with most experience and knowledge of family law. Hiring another attorney for any type of complex case is a grave error.

Top Notch Lawyer -- Highly Recommend --

Lisa Hughes and Kathryn Yarnal were amazing and secured a ruling which has changed my life (and my families life) for the better. From seeing my son 18% of the time to 50% of the time from a bitter ex who was using the child as a pawn for leverage. Hughes & Hughes in every way out maneuvered opposi...ng counsel in all matters and was able to secure a total victory. I had much trepidation in hiring a lawyer and going the legal route but looking back I should have done so much sooner. I asked a prominent attorney in another field for recommendations for family law and I had a consultation with them all - I retained Hughes & Hughes after a twenty minute consult with Lisa who was direct and there was no wasted movement. Lisa and Kathryn took the emotion out of the equation and were always professional even when opposing counsel was not. You can't put a price tag on doing what is best for your child and their future and I feel that Lisa's veteran experience coupled with Kathryn's execution at the ground level they were unstoppable. Lisa and Kathryn have seen it all and nothing seemed to surprise them, even when opposing counsel started to muckrake as a last resort. I would highly recommend this firm they are always in the court house with cases (which tells you something) and I truly felt they had their finger on the pulse of what was happening on a day to day scale as opposed to many other lawyers I saw in action who both looked and acted like they were a fish out of water in front of the judge. I cannot recommend Hughes & Hughes enough as they absolutely did a fantastic job in my case and delivered even more than I asked for.
