Stay away!!! Would give zero stars if possible.
A horrible experience for me. Almost no communication, showed up in court without even bringing a laptop to read judgements. Ended up costing me thousands and thousands of dollars in penalties because he could not communicate with opposing lawyer. Stay away, horrid experience. Dig into others reviews...
Dear Anonymous reviewer and whoever may also read this review: I have been trying to ascertain who left this review. I cannot imagine your experience was recent. I honestly do not know who you are, but I feel the need to address this: First, I believe it is important that readers know that I run a small law office. I started literally right out of law school. As a result, I like to think that I am personable and down to earth and that I listen to all of my clients’ concerns and address them appropriately. Second, I bring a laptop computer to Court when it is necessary. Most of the time, I bring an ipad. In fact, I keep most of my files digitally and therefore are accessed easily that way. I also take notes directly on the ipad. The Los Angeles and Ventura County courts do not have online access to court files, which includes Judgments. Even if I had a laptop with me in Court (per your review), I could not access any pleadings filed in any family law case. As for the “lack of communication”, I do not know what you could possibly be talking about. The first question I ask my clients is “How do you want us to communicate with you?” I have several methods: They are: email, text message, messages through my online portal, Facebook messenger, Twitter messenger or even Google hangouts. I do my ever best to ensure that when a client leaves, he or she is not angry. I always try to make bad feelings better. I am always trying to improve my client experience. Divorce is not a cakewalk. It is emotionally charged and is gut wrenching. It is also not unusual for one to take out his or her bad circumstances on their divorce attorney. It is also not unusual for opposing parties to write bad reviews about the other side’s attorney. This could be the case here. Whether you are a former client, a former client’s spouse or someone else who had the need to write this review, I wish you the best.

Poor Communication and Shady
I compared reviews of several local lawyers and Hoffer's were the best, so I signed with him and paid the retainer. I wish I had gone with someone else because he was inconsistent in responding and impersonal in our interactions. Long story short, my husband and I worked things out (hooray!) and I...
Dear Brittany Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. I am truly grateful for your feedback. I am not at liberty to respond to your review due to the attorney-client privilege. I will be sure to keep your review in the forefront of my mind as I try to continually improve the client experience. Also, congratulations on your reconciliation. All the best to you. JLH.

Client Review
Mr. Hoffer charged a high retainer $5000 and refused to return any of it when I was dissatified with his lack of work. Beware that his retainer is not refundable under any circumstances! He does not make this clear during his first consultation. I would not recommend him under any circumstances.
The retainer I charged this client was not high at all and I worked very hard for this client. We aired out our positions in fee arbitration and I prevailed. He then posted this negative review. Divorces are very hard emotionally on clients. i wish that things did not end on such a sour note as I always try to make things better for my clients. I hope this person's case resolved in his favor.

lousy Lawyer!! Do not use.
Warning do not use. Was with him for almost 2.years and got absolutely nothing accomplished. His work is disorganized and he is completely unproffesional. Save your money and do your research cause I didn't and its cost me a fortune.
I have sufficient proof to demonstrate that the above review was not truthful. My work for this client was first rate and highly professional. As for his accusation that my work is "disorganized", that is not true. My files are mostly scanned and online. For paper files, I use a great system for called "Bindertek". They are more expensive than regular paper files, but they are extremely professional and make for very easy organization. I am also aware of negative and false online reviews this client gave to other attorneys as well.

Be aware and Stay away!....
I had hired this attorney last year and that was my biggest mistake. He talks a great talk to get your retainer and after that He is not responsive, He does not prepare for the case nor keep you informed on its progress and worse yet he gets mums in the court. He botched my case so bad, that I hav...
I am not sure what "great talk" I used in order to obtain a retainer payment from this person. I also have no idea what he is talking about when he accuses me of being "non responsive". When was I "not responsive"? What was I "not responsive" to? This client had my cell phone number and email address. He was always able to reach me. I will say this however. As an attorney, I can honestly say that sometimes a contested hearing does not go as anticipated. One main reason for this is when my client does not tell me the truth or leaves out important facts which I then find out about later in Court. I consider my clients to be my partners. I need honest client input in order to be adequately prepared to represent his/her interests. Sometimes for whatever reason, there are clients who either outright lie to me or omit facts, which if I knew about in advance, would have affected my courtroom strategy. As for the malpractice case, that went nowhere fast.
