While driving, I encountered what appeared to be an accident (with police cars and tow trucks having responded). A car was stopped as I approached (an officer was leaning near the window speaking with the driver). I stopped behind the car, and as the officer straightened up and the car continued, t...he officer made a couple of circular motions with his complete arm (motioning me through). As I slowly drove through, I could hear him shouting to stop, so I did. Turns out this was a DUI checkpoint and I, due to the officer's erroneous hand traffic signal, had just driven through. Unfortunately for me, I had consumed two 20 oz microbrews about an hour and a half earlier and I registered as over the limit (though the officer running the DUI test kept yelling at other officers to stop turning on their computers as it was causing interference with his tester). Ultimately, I was charged with DUI. I found Chip's site online, took a chance, and phoned his office. I set up a meeting and, after about 1/2 hour of discussing the events with him, elected to hire his firm. Chip was aware I did not really need access to an automobile for a couple of months and helped work out the 90 day driver's license suspension such that I had only about a week and a half to deal with getting around with no driver's license. After the initial trial date being postponed due to a request for continuance from the D.A., I found the new date of the trial to be problematic and let Chip know. He assured me it would work out, but did inform me of a deal the D.A. had offered, but which Chip explained was a bad deal and no better than the worst we might expect from going to court. Chip let me know it was my decision, but recommended that I not take the deal and await the new trial date. I was a bit concerned as the trial date approached, but the day before the trial was to be held, Chip contacted me letting me know the D.A. had agreed to reduce the charge from DUI to Reckless Driving because the D.A. again had problems appearing in court at the appointed time. Chip's experience had led him to be aware the D.A. was overtaxed with cases and would be willing to make a reasonable deal if we were patient. I'm very glad I took that advice. There were constraints which had to be completed (Victim Impact Panel, Online DUI school and a fine) which Chip and his staff helped me know how to arrange. I would, without exception, recommend Chip to any of my friends if they found themselves in need of a quality attorney.

Jay Siegel is an excellent defense attorney. When I first met with Jay, I thought the outlook of my case was very grim.
