Peter is a clear, compassionate and knowledgeable divorce attorney. He is dedicated to helping clients through the difficult transition from marriage to divorce by avoiding the difficulties of adversary proceedings and promoting collaboration and cooperative problem solving.
In his law practice, Peter uses only Divorce Mediation and Collaborative Divorce to resolve divorce agreements and complete the case. Cases are only accepted when both parties agree to use one of these settlement approaches.
Peter’s has specialized in Divorce Mediation and Collaborative Divorce for more than 25 years. He is a skilled facilitator and is committed to understanding the interests and helping meet the needs of each individual client. Peter has a M.Ed. Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Arizona. He has found that combining his counseling skills with collaborative approaches to problem solving is the most effective and humane way to resolve the legal issues of divorce and legal separation out of court.
Peter has learned from long-time experience as a divorce attorney that the legal system can be far from an ideal venue for resolving family legal issues. For many, the traditional adversary culture of resorting to conflict-ridden negotiating and litigation is simply not a useful way to resolve disputes. The focus on right/wrong, good/bad and win/lose is often an impediment to resolution of conflict.
For this reason, cooperative settlement approaches like Divorce Mediation and Collaborative Divorce help reduce the emotional and financial stress of divorce. Moreover, such approaches can aid clients in finding their way to healing and more settled lives after the divorce case is completed.

How To Divorce: Getting Started The most important question to consider before starting a legal action is: What dispute resolution process am I going to use to resolve my case? Before starting a divorce, a legal separation or other family law case, a careful consideration of the kind of process you want to use to resolve the legal issues is important, especially if you have children.

The various divorce settlement processes vary widely in their impact on the client. The stress level and equilibrium for the client can be significantly reduced in the former and is often greatly exacerbated in the latter.

Divorce and Family Mediation is often an ideal way for divorcing clients to make a complete settlement of the legal issues around their divorce or legal separation. In mediation the neutral attorney / mediator represents neither party; rather, the mediator has a series of meetings with the clients, usually from two to four sessions, and helps them resolve the required legal issues that result in a final divorce.
