Dedicated, Concearned and Hohnest

Neil is an amazing lawyer who cares. Money was not his priority, my case was.

Excellent Attorney

Neil did a custody case for me 3 years ago. I thought he was great then, but he's been just as useful to me lately with questions concerning that case and another family law issue. What I like best about Neil is he will tell it to you straight. It might not be what you want to hear, and it might not ...be what you thought was true, but he really knows the law (and the judges! :-) and he's not afraid to tell it like it is, even if it can be upsetting to hear. I think he's ethical, decent and fairly aggressive. He charges about the same as most well respected lawyers, and is pretty responsive for someone so busy. He saw things in our case 3 years ago that he warned me about, and sure enough, they have come to pass. Will be working with him again, no doubt.

Bloviates and Prattles

I hired Neil for a period of approximately 9 months for my divorce a number of years ago. It seems that "honest assessment and passionate advocacy" per his current 2020 website claim means paying to hear Neil bloviate and prattle, much about himself and his other cases. At one point, advice was give...n on my ability to move out of my marital home with my children that I know could have only come from a lawyer, yet when I repeated his advice back to him he indicated he never said such a thing and that I was lying. But under no circumstances could I invent such advice because I’m not that creative nor familiar with legal terms/procedures. He is also long-winded then gleefully charges for the time while he is the one prolonging the conversation with his varied commentary. Due to a supposed conflict of interest, he stepped down from my case and I had to hire another lawyer to finish my divorce case. The change of representation reiterated that this was not a good fit.

"I have known Neil since the late 90's when we were both associates at a large law firm. Later we met again after we had both hung out our own shingles and by chance had office space across the hall from each other. So I have gotten to know Neil pretty well and have valued his insight on the workings of the court. He is my first choice when referring clients to a family law lawyer. He is a zealous advocate and does family law because he likes it and is good at it, and sees it as a valuable and necessary service. He has done other kinds of law in the past and would be successful doing other kinds of law, but this is his calling. He really believes in helping people through this difficult process and has the unique skill set for it. And he's a straight shooter. Tells it like it is."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
