Talk to Joe first, you’ll be glad you did.

My life would have been significantly enhanced had I received advice from Joe Newberry before I implemented any divorce action. He was a fantastic resource. I thought I could be a nice guy and structure a soft landing for my ex-wife. This ended to be a futile and counter-productive effort. Litiga...tion is litigation and I never should have thought it could be “friendly". Joe set me straight and did a great job representing me. Talk to Joe first, you’ll be glad you did.

Gifts of the marriage

If you are reading this reference I hope your circumstances are different than mine were when I decided I needed to find an attorney. When I sought out the services of Leecraft and Newberry my criteria was quite simple I wanted a firm that was within walking distance of my downtown office and a fami...ly practice. At the time walking distance seemed more important, I could not have been further off the mark! Our family, my wife and two children ages 9 and 11 were in a transition of moving from the Pacific Northwest to Austin; we had decided to leave the kids in school for the remaining 3 months of the semester and I would commute each week to Austin. In the process of getting ready to move I discovered that my wife was sharing our bank account and other things with a friend of hers; I decided to have and initial consultation with Joe Newberry to weigh out my options, 5 minutes into the consultation Joe’s assistant left the room, a few minutes later she returned with a background check on my wife’s friend that showed among other things he was a violent convicted felon. At that point Joe stated that for a person in my position there are three very important things to consider: the children, myself and our assets in that order, he then gave me some free advice and told me if I still wanted to hire his firm to come back once the subject matter of the advice had occurred. My ordeal lasted a little over a year, instead of a few months mostly because I truly loved my wife and could not bear breaking up our family. Throughout the process I found out just how important hiring a family firm truly was, Joe, my representative, never lost sight of what was in my best interest, his partner who just happens to be his mother checked in occasionally and gave me guidance and advice only a mother could give and his associate a female, gave me a women’s perspective that proved invaluable. On the day we stood in front of the Judge and he asked “what are we going to do with the gifts of the marriage?” I left the courthouse with custody of my two wonderful children and that is something most fathers only dream of! Thank You Leecraft and Newberry.

Joe Newberry and Team

I had been in a nasty custody battle for almost 3 years prior to meeting Joe and his amazing team. My first lawyer never believed in my case, used up my retainer, gave me unhelpful advice, and never went to court for me. From the first meeting my wife and I had with Joe and Melissa, we could already... tell that these people were going to get the job done. I was so impressed with all of Joe's knowledge on the laws and how things are supposed to be done. Time was of the essence and Joe was able to get all the paperwork filed correctly and in a timely manner. I always felt like my case was a priority to the team, and Joe was very good at calling me to give me updates. He is very strategic and powerful in the court room. All in all the entire team at Leecraft and Newberry is an amazing group of people. Everyone works together to get the job done. I am so proud to say that my two daughters live with me full time now. I can not thank Joe and staff enough. It is because of them that this blessing has happened. If you looking for a fighter, Leecraft & Newberry is where you will find it. I would highly recommend Joe to anyone who is in need of a family law attorney,

A divorce is a tough thing to deal with and Joe made the situation very manageable

Joe Newberry handled my divorce and really made the entire process easy and painless. There were issues with my wife being non-responsive, but Joe kept things on track and made everything happen smooth and easy. He was professional, knowledgeable, ad honest with me through out the process. Luckily fo...r me, there were no children involved with my divorce, but Joe was able to explain my options to me and made things fair for both parties when it came to property and assets. The firm was very affordable compared to many others I had looked into and kept me informed on where I stood with them on fees and expenses. That made me very comfortable about what I was paying for. I would highly recommend Joe and his entire team.

Excellent customer service

My wife and I were in need of a lawyer to handle a personal property/contract dispute, and we were given Joe's name by a friend. While our legal issue was minuscule compared to the family law matters that Joe usually addresses, I felt as though Joe cared about and put a good deal of effort into our ...case, evidenced by his willingness to research our grounds for litigation and promptly proceed with completing the necessary paperwork and filing claims. It was quite easy to reach Joe by email and phone in resolving our case and I felt as though Joe truly cared about our legal matter . Joe's excellent customer service and willingness to investigate matters in order to provide sound legal advice will be a tremendous asset to his firm. My wife and I were so pleased with the service we received that we plan on using Joe in the future for drafting our wills, power of attorneys, and other estate planning documents.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
