Biography
Monique Sparks isn’t just an attorney, she’s a fighter, a storyteller, and a relentless advocate for justice. Born in Wichita, Kansas and raised in Missouri City, Texas, Monique’s journey into law was driven by a deep belief in fairness and a passion for standing up for people when they need it most.
She earned her B.A. in Political Science from Dillard University in New Orleans, where she first began to see how power, systems, and people intersect. She went on to earn her law degree from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University, an experience that solidified her commitment to serving her community through the law.
In 2008, Monique founded The Sparks Law Firm, a criminal defense firm built on integrity, grit, and compassion. She leads a hand-picked team of warriors, each bringing unique strengths and a shared mission to deliver not just legal defense, but human-centered advocacy. Every case is approached with depth, strategy, and a deep respect for the people behind the file. Monique is known for her fearless presence in the courtroom and her ability to connect with juries through powerful storytelling. That gift was sharpened at the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College, where she trained in 2010, hiking the mountains of Wyoming while mastering client-centered representation and the art of trial advocacy.
Her commitment doesn’t stop at the courtroom doors. Monique has taken on major civil rights efforts, including serving as lead counsel in the fight against the unconstitutional Southlawn Gang Injunction, which threatened to strip 92 Black men in Harris County of their rights. In
2020, she co-founded the Houston Protest Defense Team, representing nearly 800 protestors during a critical moment in our country’s history. She also co-founded the Diversity, Justice, and Inclusion Committee of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, helping to reshape what leadership and equity look like in the legal field.

Excellent services

"I was hired on a criminal case by the wife of a client who as on parole and had been charged with a DWI second offense and a felony possession of Marijuana. The Texas Parole Board filed a motion to revoke my client's parole and send him back to prison regardless of the outcome of the criminal cases. The family retained Monique to fight the parole revocation. I was able to get the felony case dismissed, but had to plea the DWI before the DA was able to refile it to a felony intoxication assault. After being released from prison, my client had built a successful business and had a lot to loose. Because the client was on Parole for a very serious offense and was looking at going back to prison for a long time, Monique would have her work cut out for her. Monique zealously prepared for the parole revocation hearing and was able to convince the Parole Board to reinstate our client and allow him to return back to his family and to running his successful business."
