MARK TREATED ME LIKE A NUMBER!!! HE FED ME TO THE D.A.

MARK COMES OFF AS A GREAT ATTORNEY.WHO FIGHTS FOR THE REGULAR GUYS RIGHTS. "FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE" MARK "ROBIN HOOD" BENNETT. "FIGHT THE FEDS" I MEAN LOOK AT ALL THESE GREAT REVIEWS THATS HOW I FOUND HIM 10 OUT OF 10. I PAYED THE GUY TONS OF MONEY. HE FED ME TO D.A. AND THE STATE OF TEXAS LIK...E I WAS A NUMBER. I PROBABLY TOOK ONE FOR THE TEAM SO NEXT TIME HE HAS A HUGE CASE HE'LL GET SOME LEVERAGE. I HAD CREDIT DEBIT ABUSE FROM A EX LOVER. I COULD HAVE EASILY HAD IT DROPPED FROM A FELONY TO MISDEMEANOR AND HAVE A 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR OF PROBATION.. I GOT 2 YEARS DEFERRED FELONY PROBATION! WHICH I ADMIT IS WAY BETTER THAT PRISON. SEE AFTER I FOUND OUT HOW THE HARRIS COUNTY SYSTEM WORKED. I COULD OF HIRED A COURT APPOINTED LAWYER AND GOT THE SAME RESULT. LETS SEE 15K FOR MARK OR $$$0 FOR A FRESH FACED COURT APPOINTED KID OUT OF LAW SCHOOL. OH BUT I DID GET A COOL LOOKING METAL BUSINESS CARD. BUT WOULD RATHER HAD THE KID OUT OF LAW SCHOOL WRITE IT DOWN ON A OLD PIZZA BOX.

I appreciate this comment for the lesson it illustrates. Sometimes—as here—clients who got what they wanted at the time get buyer's remorse later and regret the choices that they made. When they do, they often—as here—blame the lawyer. At the time he chose to plead guilty, this client was happy with the result in his case. I had been paid, as I always am, to investigate the law and the facts and try the case if necessary, but the client chose to reduce his risk of a felony conviction by pleading guilty and taking probation rather than going to trial. Considering the facts of the case (which I won't go into) that seemed a good choice at the time. A shorter misdemeanor probation might have been a viable option, but it would likely have involved a conviction, and would have remained on his public record forever. Taking felony deferred avoided a conviction and should have allowed him to seal his case from public view five years after successfully completing the probation and staying out of trouble. Had he stayed out of trouble, the judge would likely have terminated his felony deferred adjudication early as well; a two-year felony deferred adjudication could have been over in a year or eight months. It's not uncommon for an accused presented with the option of a shorter misdemeanor probation (with a conviction) and a longer felony deferred adjudication (with no conviction) to choose the longer probation. Had the client come back to me after pleading guilty and expressed his unhappiness with the choice he had made, I would have done everything possible to undo it. Had he come back to me and asked me to seek early termination, I would have done so. But he didn't. Instead, he waited more than a year after the case was resolved (not 1-6 months, as the client says above)—after he had chosen to commit another crime, risk revocation of his probation, spend 20 days in jail, and lose any chance of ever getting his record sealed—to complain. Had I expected this client to go around committing other crimes, I would have strongly advised him strongly to choose to try his case instead of taking probation.

"Mark is one of those lawyers that makes me proud to be a lawyer. His advocacy skills, his analytical skills, and his pure writing ability are something to which I aspire. On top of all of that, he is simply a treasure for civil society and the defense bar. His contributions are more important than most people in the public will ever know."

"Integrity, Heart, Love, and Skill Review for Mark Bennett | Submitted on 4/29/18 (Review Pending) Mark and I were friends and he had helped me out prior to the case that is the subject of this review. In 2006 my girlfriend died of an overdose. In 2010, I was charged and indicted for Delivery of a CS F4. Mark Bennett selected a jury in Harris County on my behalf in front of a very hostile and myopic Judge named Denise Collins. Additionally the DAs Office assigned a “special prosecutor”-Commie Spence, and the trial was covered by all of the media with the point being that the only people who were somewhat on our side were the bailiffs who completely supported us after hearing the evidence. So Mark did an outstanding job in a hi profile, prejudicial, and hostile venue where it was clear that the Judge was just another prosecutor, but who was on the Bench, making it that much more difficult. Despite all these facts he got a not guilty on my behalf."

"Mark Bennett is one of the most brilliant legal minds in Houston, if not all of Texas or the US. I had the opportunity to sit second chair with him on a trial last year and he was top-notch from jury selection to closing arguments. I am constantly seeking his advice on complex legal issues. All of this is evident based one him being honored as 2015 Harris County Criminal Lawyer of the year. Mark has raised the bar for criminal defense in Houston and throughout. Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
