Best Attorney in Texas!

I am on parole for a possession of a controlled substance case that happened 18 years ago. Last year I was arrested for Manufacture/Delivery of a controlled substance, penalty group 2, over 4g under 200g and immediately bonded out. I contacted John, informed him that a blue warrant was issued for me ...and that I needed the BEST legal representation Texas had to offer, he assured me I came to the right place. He had already been recommended by many other Texas attorneys. The Grand Jury handed down an indictment of only Possession of a controlled substance, but it was STILL a 1st degree felony and I was on parole, which means I was facing 25 years to LIFE in prison with an enhancement. In the 5 months before my arraignment John diligently worked to find the best outcome and gave me sound legal advice that helped me wrap up all my business and personal affairs in preparation for the inevitable, time back in prison. Miraculously, John was able to get my charge reduced to Possession of a controlled substance under 1 gram, a State Jail Felony, which was THEN reduced to a Class A misdemeanor, (1244B) punishable by up to 365 days in jail. When I went to court the morning of my arraignment I was at the mercy of John Hunter Smith's legal representation, I had to trust his plan and hope he would do what he said he could do, but at the time of arraignment, still had a 1st degree felony. I was arrested that morning of arraignment on the parole violation (Blue Warrant) and 46 days later John took me before the Judge to sign for 46 days time served, on a Class A misdemeanor. 14 days later my parole was reinstated and I was released back on supervision! So to put my miraculous situation into perspective, when I walked into John's office with a Manufacture/Delivery of over 4 grams charge, on parole, he told me he was the BEST attorney for the case, but he was completely "by-the-book" and refused top do anything "underhanded". I retained him on his word. Seven months later I walked out of jail after serving 60 days total and only a new misdemeanor on my record! I will be forever grateful for John and his paralegal April for giving me another chance at life.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
