also known as Matthew Katz, Mateo Katz
Matthew A. Katz, Esq., MSW, MBA, grew up in Evanston, Illinois, and has spent his career helping individuals and families navigate difficult transitions with clarity and care. He earned his first degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the Teaching of Social Studies and spent seven years teaching high school in the Chicago Public Schools.
He attended DePaul University College of Law, graduating cum laude in 2003. After becoming an attorney, he opened his first law practice in the same community where he taught and went on to handle thousands of cases, with a strong focus on family law matters such as divorce, child custody and support, orders of protection, and complex property division. He is fluent in Spanish and committed to making the legal process accessible and understandable for his clients.
Katz’s work in family law led him to pursue additional training in both business and mental health. He earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2015, along with additional graduate degrees in Social Work and Divinity from the University of Chicago, and he is also an experienced psychotherapist. This background allows him to approach cases with a deeper understanding of the emotional, financial, and psychological dynamics involved.
Today, Matthew combines legal experience, psychological insight, and strategic thinking to provide thoughtful, effective representation. His goal is for every client to feel heard, supported, and confident in the decisions made together.
