Since 1989, I have been licensed by the State Bar of Michigan and have earned a Master Lawyer distinction. In my decades of general practice, I have served thousands of clients.
Among the first-50 attorneys in Michigan to complete the Family Law Certificate program offered by the Institute for Continuing Legal Education in Ann Arbor, MI, I have completed over a thousand divorces from start to finish. Also, I present lectures and seminars to other lawyers and legal professionals on a regular basis. Most recently, I served as the Chair of the Oakland County Bar Association's Family Court Committee.
In addition to family law, I have a robust criminal law practice, representing clients in jury trials and appeals across Michigan. Approved for felony assignments by the Oakland County Circuit Court, and as a former roster attorney for the Michigan Appellate Assigned Counsel System, I know my way around the criminal justice system.
Three Michigan Attorneys General [Cox, Schuette and Nessel] have appointed me to serve as a Special Assistant Attorney General prosecuting delinquent child support payors. I also serve Oakland County as a Public Administrator. These appointments have provided extensive family law, probate and elder law experience as a professional fiduciary in thousands of cases.
My appellate docket has placed me before the Michigan Supreme Court, Mich Court of Appeals, and the U S Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. Serving 2-years as a pre-hearing attorney for the Mich Court of Appeals was my 1st job out of law school, followed by another 5-years in the appellate section of Plunkett & Cooney, one of Michigan’s largest private law firms.
For 8-years in the middle of my career, I was an Asst Professor and Director of Legal Studies at the Univ of Detroit Mercy. The UDM Law Review published my article on civil rights claims in the law enforcement seizure context. As a professor of legal studies, I trained paralegals in all aspects of assisting attorneys in private practice, publishing a comprehensive article on this subject in the Mich Bar Journal.
Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit School of Law (1988)
Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, (1984).

Simply Amazing!
Tim was incredible from start to finish. The process began with a free consultation. Tim listened, took extensive notes, and spent considerable time with us. Most importantly, he was direct and honest about the process and all possible outcomes. Once we decided to proceed, his rate was fair, and in t...

Might as well done it myself
I hired Mr. Flynn to respond to a motion my ex-husband filed. Mr. Flynn asked me for some bullet points that I would like to include in his response. All he did was copy them, almost “Word for Word“ in his official response. I might as well have written it myself. Then after he went and talked with...
These Anonymous reviews are difficult to assess because we often cannot tell the client's identity. In this case, I have no doubt this person was a client because we always seek the client's input as to each and every allegation made against them in a motion filed in the family court. Rarely do we ever copy "word-for-word", preferring to couch the response in the form of a legal document, citing to the appropriate statute or case law. The process reflected in this review is accurate in Oakland County: the matter goes before the FOC Referee first, then to the judge if the matter cannot be resolved. We are never "afraid" to go before the judge; sometimes, however, it does not make good sense to do so. Nevetheless, some client's insist. It's a risk assessment that must be made in each case. Going before the judge recklessly, in case after case, can cause damage to an attorney's reputation. Since I do not do that, I am not worried about my reputation in this fashion. I am confident that when a matter is appropriately brought before the court, I am a credible advocate for my client. The bottom line in this review is that my client was dissatisfied with the procedure and the result obtained in this case. From my perspective, I would rather be appraised of this by the client herself rather than reading it online in an attorney directory. If the client had contacted me directly, perhaps I could have made amends. This type of review points to the difficulty that is always present in family court matters. As the immediate past chair of the Oakland County Bar Association's Family Court Committee, I have worked hard with the family court professionals over the past two years to improve the system in Oakland County and to make it more "user friendly" for parents. Obviously, there remains more work to do. Equally obvious however is that there will always be disappointed litigants.

Was mine and my ex-wife joint attorney. Communicated great with both of us. Expedited our divorce in a timely manner. Friendly and down to earth people.

Great attorney!
Tim Flynn represented my family in court and did a fantastic job! He made sure we were treated fairly, brought up important details, made clear and concise arguments, and really listened to us. I would hire him again in a heartbeat! He's very professional and really knows the law.

The Best Lawyer Ever.
Tim was recommended to me by a friend who used his services and was completely satisfied with the quality and fees he provided in a business dispute. I was in need of an attorney when I decided to seek a divorce and called Tim to discuss my options. I had two young children and knew that I had to...
"Tim is an excellent attorney. He is bright, hard working, well prepared and does a great job for his clients. He is the kind of attorney you want to have by your side when the chips are down."
"I am happy to endorse Tim Flynn. Whatever your legal problem Tim is more than capable of helping you with it. He's a hard worker who not only knows how to fight but when not to fight as well. For clients there's also an extra added bonus with Tim in terms of his excellent ability to explain things and in so doing make the entire process less scarey. Like I said, I'm proud to endorse Tim Flynn because he's a great lawyer!"

Attorney Flynn is very knowledgeable in the area of family law. He was always well prepared whenever we had a court hearing."
"Mr. Flynn constantly provides excellent legal advice that not only benefit the asker of the question, but also fellow attorneys. Even though I have been an attorney for 23 years and even a judge and magistrate, I learn new aspects about the law from him every day."

Providing information empowers the uninformed to go forward with confronting their legal problems. I recommend and endorse this attorney."
"I had the privilege of attending a legal conference where Tim was one of the featured speakers. I also spoke at length with him about various aspects of Michigan Family and Criminal areas of practice. It is obvious that Tim has a unique combination of a tremendous amount of legal knowledge and a personality that makes it easy to converse with him. Tim embodies what the best trial attorneys nationwide aspire to become after many years of honing their craft. I would refer colleagues, friends and family to Timothy Flynn. He is what we in New Jersey refer to as "a lawyer's lawyer"."
