Learn Scott’s areas of practice.

Scott Barnhart started his career serving as a deputy attorney general for the Office of the Indiana Attorney General. Mr. Barnhart first served in the Appellate Division. He is an experienced appellate attorney who has authored over three hundred appellate briefs and has argued multiple times before the Supreme Court of Indiana and the Indiana Court of Appeals. He has been lead counsel in over twenty-five published decisions.

In 2008, Mr. Barnhart was chosen by the Attorney General's Office to participate in a cross-training exchange program where he served as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. After gaining experience trying cases to juries as a deputy prosecutor, Mr. Barnhart returned to the Attorney General’s Office in 2009 and began practicing in the Civil Litigation Division where he represented the State of Indiana, its agencies, and its employees before state and federal courts throughout Indiana. He gained significant experience aggressively representing government clients in civil rights cases, administrative hearings, and employment lawsuits. Both as a trial lawyer and an appellate practitioner, Mr. Barnhart is experienced at handling high profile cases with close media coverage.

Following a seven year stint in private practice where he successfully started and grew a law firm from three lawyers to six, Mr. Barnhart returned to public service serving as Special Counsel of Complex Litigation at the Indiana Attorney General's Office.  He currently serves as Chief Counsel and Director of Consumer Protection leading a team of approximately seventy employees in four sections including Consumer Litigation, Data Privacy, Medical Licensing, and Professional Licensing.

Scott Barnhart
Scott helped me obtain my lifetime gun permit license, which i have been trying to get for years! He was honest with me and most of all available, which are two qualities that are hard to find in a person. A true professional and just a great person.

Concealed Carry Permit Representation
Scott did a terrific job resolving a documentation error with the State Police for my lifetime concealed carry permit. He was incredibly knowledgeable, expeditious and took my case seriously to have the issues resolved. Great Work, Scott!

Problem Solved
I had a few complications in acquiring a firearm carry permit due to errors on my criminal record. Scott Barnhart was very confident in his ability to have the errors corrected and my carry permit approved. He knew the "ins" and "outs" of the process and who the people were that handled the paperwork so he could directly communicate with them. Although the process took a little longer than expected I would recommend Scott Barnhart to anyone who might be in a similar situation.
