We help you navigate through this complex process and appeal any denials. If necessary, we will argue your case in front of an administrative law judge and, if warranted take your claim all the way to the Federal District court.

Private insurance agencies make money through your monthly payments, not through payouts, and it is in their best interest to delay claims, deny claims, or offer minimal support — making the filing process confusing. We know the system well and are very familiar with the tricks, loopholes, and red tape that the insurance companies depend upon for their profits — let us help you file a successful application or make a successful appeal. Cannot even get a live person on the phone!

I completely regret hiring these folks. I have had to call them anytime I wanted information on my claim. I submitted my claim 18 months ago, and the contact people have been deteriorating ever since. The last 3 months it has been to the point where I cannot even get a call back from my so-called ...case worker. I have left message after message with no response whatsoever. All you ever get is a recording with a promise that someone will call you back and no one ever does. I am going to a local attorney next week and I am going to have him get my file from these people and make sure they do not try to get any money from me. They are negligent and non-responsive. I have been treated like I do not even exist.

Thank you for the feedback. At times, the Social Security disability process can be long and frustrating. Many individuals who are legitimately disabled have to wait a year or longer to go before an Administrative Law Judge. At LaVan & Neidenberg all of our clients are assigned individual case managers who act as a liaison between our clients and the Social Security Administration. Additionally, we have over 10 associate attorneys who practice Social Security disability exclusively. Those attorneys live and do hearings in those 'local markets' referenced in this posting. The scenario presented in this posting is atypical given the way we run our law firm. Since this posting is anonymous, we have no means of verifying these complaints. Please contact our law firm, because if your case manager is not communicating with you effectively, we will take immediate steps to improve this situation.

SSD admin judge , lawyer review

went online and picked this firm for my SSD case, i was denied and then went before the SS admin judge. i talked to my appointed lawyer the nite before my hearing, i asked about papers i had sent in and he said he had what he needed, i offer my paper work and he replied "he wasn't going to go thru a... stack of papers". at my hearing i met him for the first time and only had 15min to review my case before i went before the judge. i was his second client to go before the televised judge, he came out and said to me" this judge is weird and hates florida!" this statement worried me greatly. i asked him how he liked it over here and this SS admin building, he replied" its not west palm beach "and I just want to get this over". we then went in and he honestly didn't do much and didn't have any fight in himself for my case. i asked him about how it went and he was indifferent. when i received the unfavorable decision in writing and reasons why, i reviewed the SSD letter and it was no surprise. the paper work they put together from my doctors with dates and, it a mess with inconsistency that are blatantly obvious. mostly its the time line they defined. It was different to what i have and stated to them. i believe my lawyer should have brought these points up to me. If those discrepancies were rectified then at least my case would have more merit. to be fair this was probably one lawyer out of many so yours may vary.

Have I made a mistake in hiring this firm?

I'm currently a client with this firm and felt that I needed to look at some of their complaints because it's been almost a year and I have not received any desirable results. My SSD was denied in May... it is December now, shouldn't the appeal be processed by now? I'm living with my mom and her hu...sband and they think I should get another firm to handle my case because of the time and limited contact i've had since L&N began my case in January. In waiting for my case to be approved I've since lost everything I'd worked for over the years. I knew time would be a problem in filing a claim, I just didn't think it would take a year or more. L&N please do your reputation a favor and give your clients good results. Don't just type in replies to all the bad reviews you are getting from your long time clients. To my surprise after looking this info up I see that you have a lot of unsatisfied clients. Now I'm feeling doubtful of your abilities in representing me. I'm gonna have to make some calls to the VA and SS offices to find out if you filed my appeals on time. I'm also going to be researching other attorneys to find out if they can assist with my claims in a timely manner. You know sometimes you have the lives of your clients in your hands. Most of us are at the lowest points in our lives and we put our faith in your law firm thinking that you are as good as the lawyers we see on TV, but you turn out to be burned out employees looking to line your pockets by taking on more cases than you can keep up with. Try to hold yourselves to a higher standard than you seem to be doing now.

Customer Service

I was squared away, but have not been able to refer anyone to this firm. The VA Dept does not answer the phone or follow through. I submitted very important paperwork to a rep and called him back 14 days later and he had forgotten to send it. This is disrespectful and unacceptable to man that has ser...ved this country honorably

"I endorse this lawyer. Ken LaVan runs one of the best Social Security disability law firms in the country. His firm has a perfect balance between size and professionalism. Many large firms are simply mills where the lawyers are merely concerned with numbers - not clients. Ken's firm has maintained a commitment to practicing ethically and is the gold standard for large Social Security disability law practices in the United States. Do not be misled by a few complaints. All firms have a few clients that are not happy. I am sure you know a few people that are never happy as well. Ken's firm successfully represents 1000s of disability clients each year. His attorneys and staff are highly trained and specialized giving clients the best representation at each step of the process. His firm has helped thousands of people in the past. I gladly endorse him and his firm to help with your Social Security or VA disability case."

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2015.

Reciprocal - Discipline issued in NY, 2015

updated on 07/07/2016

This means that the attorney's misconduct in another state, or jurisdiction, also violated the rules for practicing law in New York.

Public Reprimand issued in FL, 2014

updated on 06/30/2015

Public reprimand means the attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The Bar warns the lawyer in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.

Kenneth’s comment:

“What the reprimand does not include is that my managing attorney communicated with our client for 3 months prior to withdrawing from the case informing her that she did not have a valid claim for disability and although we were not going to attend her hearing and could not find another attorney to represent her, we would continue to request her medical records for her free of charge, waiving the cost of her records that we even paid for. Two weeks before the hearing we withdrew as stated.”
