Biography
Donna C. Hung focuses her practice in the areas of Family Law, Collaborative Practice, and Mediation. Her career includes working as a former Assistant State Attorney in the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Orange and Osceola counties. As a former prosecutor in Orlando and Kissimmee, Ms. Hung conducted numerous criminal jury trials, a majority of which resulted in guilty verdicts. Additionally, Attorney Hung prosecuted and handled over a thousand criminal cases. Based on her stellar performance, she was chosen to be a special prosecutor handling all aspects of domestic violence, beginning at the intake level, continuing to the trial level and finishing at the violation of probation level and beyond. Donna was even designated by the 9th Judicial Circuit’s State Attorney to sign charging informations, a designation given only to a select few. The cases Donna dealt with as a special prosecutor were domestic in nature and included domestic violence batteries, assault, stalking, harassing phone calls, violations of domestic violence injunctions, and violations of pre-trial release conditions.
Attorney Hung truly enjoyed litigating in court and because of her impressive courtroom presence and trial skills, she was offered an associate position at a Winter Park law firm where she quickly realized family law and criminal defense were her passion. She handled and defended numerous cases which included traffic infractions, DUI’s, misdemeanors, felonies, felonies punishable by life, sex crimes, armed robbery, burglary, as well as other offenses.
In addition to her experience as a former Orlando Criminal Prosecutor and a current Orlando Criminal Defense Attorney, Ms. Hung also practices Family Law. Attorney Hung currently handles uncontested divorces, complex contested divorces, child custody/visitation and child support issues, Department of Revenue child support enforcement defense, modifications, relocations, paternity, alimony, domestication of foreign decrees, emergency motions, domestic violence injunctions and father’s rights.
During her career, Ms. Hung has remained involved in her community and is an active part of Florida’s legal system. She is a member of the Central Florida Family Law Inn of Court, Greater Orlando Asian American Bar Association, Orange and Seminole County Bar Association, Family Law Section of the Florida Bar Association, Asian American Chamber of Commerce, National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Central Florida Association for Women Lawyers, and Florida Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys.
Ms. Hung graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Decision Information Science and obtained her law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law. Replied last June 15, 2018Please note that Ms. Hung did not personally represent this client in court. As to billing and our client’s fee agreement, we do invoice for work done on their case which was agreed upon by all clients upon retaining and includes work done by the hour and travel if necessary which is agreed upon by our clients. We also do not charge for everything on the invoices which is listed on your invoices as “not charged as a courtesy” each month. Monthly invoicing is customary to show the client where they are on their deposit. In this particular case, we believe we provided 5 invoices for 8 months of work to show this client where they are so they can see how their deposit is used. As this client’s case was an actual trial/hearing in a dissolution of marriage with children case, yes, it is reasonable to assume we need funds on account to prepare and attend trial when a client is out of funds. We actually worked with this client on a payment plan. As to the Judge’s ruling, we cannot control what a judge will do but due to certain judges having a minimum time-sharing schedule given to the other parent whether or not they appear, that is out of our control. It is clear that you are unhappy with the court’s ruling despite our advocacy in court in getting the client divorced, obtaining majority time-sharing for the client, school designation for the client, child support for the client, and retroactive child support for the client. We believe we represented this client to the best of our ability in order to obtain a dissolution of marriage and also followed the terms of our fee agreement with courtesy payment options and courtesy waiver of billings that would normally be charged. This was all explained to this client one year ago. We also provided an option for rehearing and for a referral to appeal the judge’s ruling if that was what this client wanted. We truly wish the best for this client and their family.
