Awesome Service
Ms. Van Matre and her Legal Secretary handled all of our questions and concerns very quickly. She also treated my daughter with respect and seemed to speak to her from the heart. We are very happy with the services that were provided and highly recommend her to anyone who needs an attorney who is caring and one who will get the job done. We used her to help us get a well needed restraining order which was handled much quicker and more discreetly then it would have been if we had simply went to the court house to file one. She also handled another family members divorce and she was also very happy with the services that she provided to her.

I consulted with Caryn on the process for a divorce. She was friendly and informative, and also provided a cost estimate. She explained each step that would take place, and approximately how long it would take in a conversational, yet professional manner.

We Definitely Recommend Mrs.Van Matre.
Mrs. Van Matre has helped our family on a few cases and we could not be more satisfied. Her office and staff gives you the feeling of home and comfort and everyone is very knowledgeable. Mrs. Van Matre is very straight forward and never leaves you in the dark. She works very hard and obtains a lot of knowledge about case before going into court. My family Highly recommends Mrs. Van Matre.

Excellent representation
I highly recommend choosing Van Matre as your legal representative. I very recently hired her to do my divorce and custody. The results were perfect and Van Matre and her staff are easy to talk with and always ready to help if you have any question. They are quick to respond, very friendly, and to the point.

Absolutely Awesome Attorney
I hired Attorney Caryn A. Van Matre for a divorce case and her professionalism, knowledge, caring attitude and outstanding service and dedication made my divorce proceedings go very well and quite easy. She sat down with me and explained what to expect and how everything was going to go throughout the entire ordeal. She handled my case in a very professional manor. She ensured my ex didn't get away with anything that she wasn't entitled to, and was quick to put my ex in her place when she tried. Attorney Caryn Van Matre was always willing to put in the extra time that was required to ensure the case was handled properly. Being in the military and being deployed during the majority of the preliminary portion of the case, Attorney Caryn Van Matre went above and beyond to ensure that I was kept well informed of the status of the proceedings. Attorney Caryn Van Matre is phenomenal! She's the attorney you want on your side. I highly recommend Attorney Caryn A. Van Matre!

Overall great, and professional person.
Never in my life thought I would need a lawyer. I was referred to Caryn by some friends, to handle my divorce. I could not have asked for a better attorney for this. She was no nonsense, straight laced, and kept me on track. I highly recommend Caryn for any Legal needs.

Best Family Lawyer in Pensacola, FL.
Caryn recently helped my wife and I with a step parent adoption. The first phase of this case was to terminate my ex wife's parental rights. This type of case in family law is very difficult. It was a very stressful time for my wife and I. Caryn and her staff were very friendly and helpful during our experience, at times taking on the role of a mental health counselor. They were always there to put our minds at ease every step of the way. Caryn's knowledge of the law and abilities as a court room lawyer are top notch. My wife and I were both very impressed. Throughout our endeavor I expressed to Caryn that I know that she couldn't guarantee our verdict, but no matter the outcome, I couldn't have been happier with her and her staffs performance. We ultimately got the decision we had hoped for. I would absolutely recommend Caryn Van Matre to be your next family lawyer. She certainly will always be ours.

Concerned and knowledgable.
Karen spent quality time with both my cases. She and her staff provided exactly what I expected and then some. Both outcomes were favorable, mainly due to her attention to detail.

I give Caryn Van Matre my highest recommendation.
If you are looking for a divorce / family law attorney, I give Caryn Van Matre my highest recommendation. I have found Caryn to be as straight as an arrow in principle and in delivering information to me that I needed in making decisions in that painful process. She is compassionate and considers all views pertinent to the case. I had a divorce of high conflict. She assisted me through that process, giving me all of the options and realistic opinions throughout that journey. Caryn told me what I needed to hear, not what I wanted to hear. She assisted me in making sound decisions for myself and my children. She assisted me in my transition from what I thought was the darkest time of my life to a good and secure place. Caryn represented me with a strong hand in a velvet glove. She and her staff have always been available and compassionate to me. I cannot say enough good things about Caryn Van Matre, other than I give her my highest recommendation, and I will always be grateful for her service.

Excellent attorney
Mrs. Van Mater has been representing me throughout a very difficult divorce and child custody case. The opposing party has gone through at least five attorneys in this litigation and have each attempted their own approach to make their client's manipulation of the court system work to their advantage. Mrs. Van Mater and her staff have systematically worked together in a professional manner resulting in consistent favorable court rulings on my behalf concerning my divorce and custody of my daughter. Mrs Van Mater is extremely knowledgeable and I would certainly recommend her.

Mrs. VanMatre was kind enough to talk to me after my boyfriend/significant other referred me to her via his father who is also an attorney in Milton. Unfortunately, his father doesn’t like me very much, so I was a little hesitant going into this conversation, but my significant other assured me that she was there to help me and my children. She started off the conversation by stating that she had zero time, and I should kiss my boyfriend after having The ability to squeeze me in to her very strenuous schedule, and also later stating that she had just met with opposing counsel and she is the exact same technique that she was using on me. liable, slander, disparagement, and basically disregard and callousness for anyone’s feelings and our lives. I responded to each one of her questions with a “yes ma’am”, because it was quite clear to me that she was disinterested in my side of the story. All she wanted was very strange evidence To dispute opposing counsel’s accusations despite my former husband having multiple arrests, and a past of being extremely dishonest. I find it quite strange that she asked me such personal questions while my ex-boyfriend/refer to listen in on our conversation. Fortunately I do have it and will be submitting it to a higher agency to evUnfortunately Mrs. VanMatre stated that she had not received the summons for what I was asking her help, and have a copy of the email being sent to her office. Instead, she stayed on the phone with me without a fee, because of my wonderful boyfriend who “handled the matter prior to our call”. Needless to say, I won’t be hiring her, and I just dump my boyfriend. Seriously, who prays on people and times of weakness? Stay away.

Wasted time and money
I hired her because I needed help with my case, but the communication between myself and her and her assistant was never clear. They could never give me a direct answer, very frustrating. I regret hiring her in the first place. It's a 50/50 chance with this one, from looking at her reviews most people approved her work, but I didn't have the same luck.

Response from Caryn Van Matre August 14, 2018
This is a tough one. I am unable to respond because I do not know what type of matter this is or when we represented this client. But, regardless of those unknowns, it is NEVER acceptable that a client feels unclear in communications. I would say that clients are able to get in touch directly with me in a few different ways. First, I am always available for in person meetings. With that said, an appointment is usually the best approach. With an appointment, I am able to set aside time to specifically focus on the client's concerns, without interruption, and give them the attention that they need. Second, I am available for telephone appointment, if a client is unable to meet in person, or if the time needed does not justify a trip to the office. Again, this is generally best by appointment, for the reasons I mentioned previously. Third, I am available by email. All of my client's are given my direct email address. I have the email forwarded to my personal devices, and it is not at all unusual for me to respond to a client's concerns after the office has closed. For this particular past client, I would welcome the chance to speak with you to hear about your experience and see if there is any way to make it right by you. The positive reviews I receive from clients are always appreciated, but the dissatisfied clients stay on my mind. I want to give each case my best. Sometimes, unfortunately, I miss the mark. Again, please feel free to contact me to discuss. And, thank you for the time you took to post a review.

Worst attorney ever
I just want to go on record stating that working with Mrs .VanMetre was one of the worst experiences of my life. Not only am I suffering from PTSD from being betrayed and cheated on, but also from the treatment I received in the divorce settlement.
Response from Caryn Van Matre January 1, 2017
Sometimes, despite our best efforts, a client is suffering such hurt that they are not able to accept the advice of counsel. In this particular matter, settlement came through the mediation process with my client receiving the vast bulk of all marital assets. That did nothing to relieve the emotional hurt suffered by my client due to the break of her marriage. I advised that counseling would likely help her heal from that trauma. I did my best to offer her a sounding board for her to express her feelings about her husband, however I had to maintain my role as her family law advocate. At all stages I keep my clients apprised of the law and circumstances of their case. I had consultations with the client individually and with a family member she wanted involved with the process. Despite my advice regarding earlier resolution of the case, the client rejected the advice. Ultimately, through the mediation process an agreement was reached that was clearly advantageous to my client's interests. For the benefit of all readers, mediation is the process of settlement discussion with a certified family law mediator. Most all family law litigants must participate. Its is a highly effective tool to help parties resolve their disputes without the risk and expense of trial. No one is forced into a settlement agreement. Settlement often comes after a compromise is reached, meaning that each party likely moved in some way from their original position. Therefore, no mediated settlement agreement is perfect from any one client's perspective. While there is emotion involved, logic and rational thought has to guide the attorney in the process. Otherwise we are not effective in protecting our client's interest. Never is it my intent to show a lack of empathy. And never do I have a client execute a settlement agreement unless they understand the advantages of the proposal. I assure that this is the case by carefully reviewing the proposal with them and discussing their options. The mediator, while not crossing the line of giving legal advice, is also there to make sure that the client knows that they are not being forced into settlement. This case was no different.
