Biography
Teague Law was built in Ellijay, in the North Georgia mountains, by a lawyer who grew up here and came home to practice. Our founder, Josh Teague, turned down the path toward a large Atlanta firm billing hours for the same corporations and institutions that so often run over ordinary people. He started a firm from nothing in the community that raised him, with one purpose: to stand up for people facing something far bigger than they are.
Today, Teague Law serves clients across Georgia facing multi-billion-dollar insurance companies or the full weight of the government. The firm is organized into two divisions. Our Personal Injury Division, led by Josh Teague, represents injured people and grieving families throughout the state. Our Criminal Defense Division is staffed by attorneys who devote their practices entirely to defending people accused of crimes in North Georgia.
Personal Injury Division
Personal injury is the primary focus of our founder Josh Teague. We represent people who have been seriously hurt, and the families of those who have been killed, because someone else was careless. We handle:
- Car wrecks
- Motorcycle wrecks
- Tractor-trailer and commercial vehicle collisions
- Wrongful death claims
Insurance companies have a playbook. They call before you have a lawyer, push for a recorded statement, offer a quick check while the bills are still coming in, blame a “pre-existing condition,” and delay until you’re worn down. The adjuster deciding what your injuries are “worth” is usually in an office in another state, and doesn’t know your community or what you do for a living.
Josh Teague began his career as a criminal defense trial lawyer, and that courtroom experience shapes how our firm handles every injury case. We know how Georgia juries and judges think, especially in the small towns and rural counties where most of this state’s cases are tried. We don’t treat a claim as paperwork to be shuffled toward whatever the adjuster is willing to pay. We prepare every injury case as if it’s going to trial, because that is the only thing an insurance company actually respects.
We handle injury cases throughout Georgia. You don’t have to live near our office or come to it. Much of our work can be handled by phone, text, or email, from wherever you are recovering.
Criminal Defense Division
Our Criminal Defense Division handles a large volume of cases in the courts of North Georgia, including Gilmer, Fannin, and Pickens Counties along the Highway 515/575 corridor and well beyond. The staff in this division focuses entirely on criminal defense.
We know these courtrooms, these judges, and the communities that make up these juries. We know a criminal charge in a small town isn’t just a legal problem. It can cost you your job and your license, and affect how your neighbors see you. We treat every case with that in mind.
We defend clients charged with:
- DUI and other traffic offenses
- Drug possession, distribution, and trafficking
- Serious felony offenses
- Rape and sexual assault
- Accusations involving minors
Accusations of sexual offenses and crimes involving children carry life-changing consequences, often before any evidence has been tested. These cases call for a defense that is thorough, discreet, and unafraid to challenge the government’s case at every step. That’s what we give them.
DUI Defense
DUI defense is one of the largest parts of our criminal practice. We represent drivers accused of DUI throughout North Georgia, and we’ve built our approach around one fact: most DUI cases are won or lost on how the arrest was made.
Every attorney at Teague Law has completed NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Testing training, the same training given to the officers who make DUI arrests. We know how the horizontal gaze nystagmus, walk-and-turn, and one-leg-stand tests are supposed to be administered and scored. We know where officers cut corners, and we know how to show a judge or jury when the evidence doesn’t hold up. Josh Teague has taught other defense lawyers at the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (GACDL) DUI Bootcamp, instructing on field sobriety testing and cross-examining the arresting officer.
We challenge the traffic stop, the field sobriety tests, breath and blood testing, and the officer’s own account. We also act fast to protect your driver’s license, because in Georgia you have only 30 days after a DUI arrest to take action or risk an automatic suspension.
