Native Pickens County resident, Nancy Cochran Maddox, has practiced law since 1999 throughout North Georgia, primarily in Pickens, Gilmer, Fannin and Cherokee Counties. In August of 2015, Ms. Maddox opened a new office in Jasper located at 23 Mary Street, just across Hwy 53 from the Jasper Middle School Football field.
Ms. Maddox’s practice areas include Estate Planning, Real Estate, Family Law, Probate law, Business Law and Elder Law.
In her practice, Ms. Maddox has worked closely with the probate courts in Gilmer and Pickens counties to provide free or reduced-rate services for the elderly, disabled individuals and children. She has also counseled many clients through the probating of estates and handling of the final affairs of someone after their death.
Ms. Maddox is a native of Pickens County, and is a 1991 honor graduate of Pickens High School in Jasper, Georgia. In 1995, Ms. Maddox graduated with honors from the University of Georgia with a degree in newspaper journalism and in 1998 from the University of Georgia School of Law.
Ms. Maddox has served on non-profit Boards of Directors for the Burnt Mountain Center in Jasper, Georgia, the Pickens County Sheriff’s Auxiliary, and the Gilmer County Learning Center in Ellijay. She also is a member of the newly formed Pickens Community Service Club and as Past President of the Gilmer County Optimist Club and is a regular volunteer at C.A.R.E.S in Jasper. Ms. Maddox is also a Past President of the Professional Women of Pickens County.
Ms. Maddox has received recognition from the State Bar of Georgia for her work in providing free legal services to those in need, particularly for drafting wills at no charge for the elderly. Ms. Maddox frequently speaks to churches and other groups about estate planning and elder law matters.
Ms. Maddox has been married to Mark L. Maddox for over 20 years and is the daughter of William “Dan” Cochran and Linda Cochran, both of Jasper. She has one brother, William David Cochran, of Jasper. She lives in Jasper with her husband and three cats, Puss-In- Boots, Penny and Bear Paw. She enjoys fishing, swimming, oil painting, ATVs and Jeeps.
