Eric A. Coffelt is a Georgia attorney with over a decade of trial experience spanning complex civil litigation, personal injury, criminal defense, and corporate disputes. A graduate of Georgia State University College of Law — where he earned the CALI Award in Advanced Trial Advocacy and Advanced Evidence — Eric has built a career defined by aggressive, results-driven representation.
Eric has tried both civil and criminal jury cases to verdict as lead or sole counsel, recovering significant awards for his clients — including $100,000 in punitive damages against a national auto repair chain in a case involving less than $450 in actual damages. He has won multiple summary judgment motions in wrongful death litigation, obtained nearly $68,000 in sanctions against opposing counsel, and successfully litigated dozens of cases against state agencies including the Georgia Lottery Corporation and the Department of Revenue.
His practice has included premises liability, personal injury, liquor liability, FLSA disputes, fraud, contract disputes, ad valorem tax appeals — where he secured over $30 million in reduced tax valuations — and criminal defense ranging from DUI to capital murder cases. Eric has argued numerous appeals before the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court, including winning an interlocutory appeal on an issue of first impression.
Eric is a former recipient of the Avvo Client's Choice Award and has presented on forensic evidence at the World Congress of Forensics in Dalian, China. He combines traditional courtroom skill with a deep understanding of technology, digital forensics, and cybersecurity — bringing a modern, thorough approach to every case.
Today, in addition to fighting on behalf of his clients in the courtroom, Eric dedicates much of his time to helping educate the general public about how to preserve and protect their rights when confronted by law enforcement - a mission he tirelessly continues to pursue. Eric has also spent considerable time and effort attempting to influence the debates taking place within and among law enforcement agencies throughout the world. For example, in October of 2010 Eric was a presenter at BIT's First Annual World Congress of Forensics in Dalian, China. At that historic gathering, which was attended by leading forensic experts from all over the world, Eric drew their attention to the ever-growing evidence that fingerprint identification is unreliable, unscientific, and (like most other forms of forensic "science,") has been responsible for many false accusations and wrongful convictions.

He saved my business license.
Eric is the best! He was kind, patient, and very impressive in court. I was about to lose my entire business, everything I'd ever worked for, and he fought for me every step of the way until we won! I will never let anyone else represent me again.

Excellent Lawyer
I Give Coffelt, my highest recommendation. I recently moved to the area from out of state, and received a ticket for driving with an expired registration, although my registration was valid. I initially went to court on my own, and it didn’t turn out well, I was fined and lost my license. To make a l...

"I highly recommend Eric Coffelt for your legal needs. He is thorough in his preparation and passionate in his representation and advocacy. He will be dedicated not just to your case, but to you as a person in making sure that your outcome is a good one. No case is too messy or too complicated for Mr. Coffelt to handle, and he will keep you informed every step of the way! I absolutely recommend this hard working attorney."
"Eric is one of the most passionate criminal defense and civil rights attorneys that I know. He works tirelessly for his clients, and he does it for the right reason: he truly cares about the person he is representing and will give 100% to each one in order to ensure he/she does not get crushed by the criminal justice system. He maintains excellent communication, the highest level of professionalism, and always acts ethically. I fully endorse Eric as a counselor and advocate."
"Mr. Coffelt is a highly intelligent, competent, and considerate attorney that I endorse highly. I have known Mr. Coffelt for over 5 years and I believe him to be one of the most skilled advocates for those seeking justice in Metro Atlanta."
"Eric is one of the rare criminal defense attorneys that I would characterize as a "true believer". Many defense attorneys are advocates for their clients because that is what they are paid to do. Eric is an advocate for his clients because he believes in keeping the system and the government honest. I highly recommend him for anyone who needs a zealous advocate."
"I have known Eric for 7 years and along with another partner recently opened up a law firm together. Eric is one of the most hardworking and dedicated attorneys I know – which is only one of many reasons I opened up a practice with him. I wholeheartedly endorse Eric."
"I endorse this lawyer. Eric is passionate about criminal defense and is the lawyer I would hire if I needed a defense attorney."
"I've known Eric since law school. He comes across as very confident and passionate about the practice of law. He is very knowledgeable in the area of criminal defense, and has no problem sticking up for his client's rights. You should hire him!"
