Education & Background:

Evan A. Watson is an graduate of Charleston (SC) School of Law.  While attending law school, he received the prestigious American Jurisprudence award and made the Dean’s List.  During law school, Evan worked in a variety of positions during summer clerkships, including acting as a law clerk for Atlanta-based Ginsberg Law Offices, handling documentation required for bankruptcy petitions and related financial paperwork.

Mr. Watson also clerked for the City of Sandy Springs, plus worked as a researcher and draftsman on documents relating to trademark applications for a South Carolina biotech company.  Immediately before joining Head, Thomas, Webb & Willis, LLC, Mr. Watson was a legal Intern handling traffic court cases for Riley, Lewis & McClendon, an Atlanta firm whose primary practice deals with representing various municipalities in overseeing and managing several Metro Atlanta municipal court prosecutors’ offices.

Prior to his entry into law school, Evan attended The Citadel in Charleston, SC, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration.  While attending The Citadel, he was named to the Commandant’s List (for Academic and Military Excellence), made the Dean’s List and was named as E Company Executive Officer.

Evan currently handles a range of criminal defense cases and will be happy to give you a consultation about your case, no matter how big or small.

 2021:

2021 was a year of courts attempting to get back into the swing of things.  To this end, Evan conducted the first in-person jury trials in 2 local court systems since March of 2020.  Evan was able to secure a not guilty jury verdict on behalf of a client charged with Boating Under the Influence, which likely spared the client a minimum of 60+ days in jail.

2020:

Despite a global pandemic that all but shut down the court system, Evan and his team were able to close dozens of cases with successful resolutions, and even emerge victorious in two complete virtual hearings- one TRIAL and one IMMUNITY MOTION. During the trial, all witnesses testified virtually, including defense witnesses, which resulted in a not guilty verdict as to the primary charge of DUI.  During the immunity hearing, again, all witnesses testified virtually, which resulted in the trial judge finding that the client was acting reasonably and in self defense when he struck the other party, knocking him to the roadway outside of his vehicle.  Waiving the right to be present in open court was not a decision taken lightly in either of these cases, but ultimately Evan's ability to read the situation lead to the winning result for his clients.

2019:

Evan and his firm (Zeliff | Watson) continue to thrive in 2019.  Evan's successes for clients include courtroom victories in pretrial motions hearings, bench trials, jury trials, and working with fellow lawyers in the community to help clients settle civil matters.  In one instance, Evan and co-counsel were able to negotiate a settlement in mediation that resulted in 5-figure compensation for a client wrongfully detained (briefly) at the direction of a local retailer.  Evan also had acquittals in DUI cases from judges and juries, as well as negotiating over 100+ cases to resolution.

2017:

2017 has been a teriffic year for Evan and his lawfirm of Zeliff | Watson.  Evan and his law partner Peter Zeliff have had well over a dozen trials, with a winning record.  Additionally, many more cases have been favorably resolved for clients seeking dismissal of their charges, from theft crimes to DUI to family violence situations.

2013:

In 2013, Evan  won several tough trials including 2 DUI .08+ jury trial in Fulton County, a DUI refusal in Fulton County, and DUI refusal bench trial in Gwinnett County.  Evan has also been lead counsel in numerous felony cases including clients charged with drug possession, aggravated assault, and various theft crimes.  Evan's current caseload includes DUI cases, theft cases, vehicular homicide cases, assault cases and drug possession cases.

2012 Update:

In 2012, Evan won all 6 DUI jury trials that he was lead counsel in.  Additionally, he won bench trials in front of area judges and obtained reduced or dismissed charges for clients.

2011 Update:

In July 2011, Evan Watson partnered with Lawyer Peter Zeliff to start Zeliff | Watson, a Cumming and North Atlanta criminal defense and DUI defense lawfirm.  Both attorneys have handled hundreds of cases and have experience in virtually every court in the North Georgia district.

Integrity!!! Honesty!!! This is not a paid advertisement!
Evan Watson! DUI (3rd lifetime) Man… Thank you for the professionalism! I have been in cases where I have been cornered to plead a case out only to fire attorney and go to trial alone. I’m always skeptical of an attorney. Much like his previous reviews, I can tell you that he has integrity and he doesn’t BS you. He will fight for you. I was a difficult client always asking specific questions and wanting to understand my options and strategy in defense. He allowed me to bounce ideas off of him and corrected me when his experience raised a red flag on how we should move forward. Ultimately my case was resolved with a Reckless Driving…Something the prosecution swore they would never do! If you wanna get lucky then go hire someone else. If you want results because someone fought for you and believed in you then go with Evan Watson! To top it off, he articulated to the court my personal situation and needing to defer minimal custodial time to several months down the road and successfully accomplished that for me as well. Thanks Evan!

Great Attorney ( The Day After )
What to do the day after a DUI. (In my case falsely arrested) You search for a attorney that handles DUI cases in the county where you were arrested. After a short search I made an appointment with Evan Watson. After a consultation I hired Evan to represent me. It was one of those moments where it just felt right. Evan was very straight forward and honest with my options and suspension of licenses was one of the consequents if I lost my case. I chose to fight. Evan felt good about my case and so did I. Throughout the process Evan always kept me informed about hearings and court dates. I would call Evan to just check in to see what was going on with my case and he would answer his phone. That made me feel even better about my decision in hiring Evan. Evan and I decided to let the Judge decide. Day of court. NERVOUS was an understatement of what I was feeling on court date. Evan was great in the court room as he presented my case to the judge and was respectful and very professional. It was in the Judges hands. Not Guilty was my outcome. Not every case is the same but if you want a attorney that will fight for you like family Evan Watson is your guy.

Best decision I ever made
I can't give enough stars for such an outstanding service! I researched and spoke to four lawyers before Evan Watson. I have a very particular and complicated case. I chose Evan after our first consultation, because I was satisfied with his strategy. He personally responded immediately to my initial inquiry. Evan is very patience and he clearly explained to me what would happen and what I could expect from my case. I placed my trust in him and he did not let me down. His professionalism and calmness was invaluable. Made the entire process as simple and easy as possible. Good communication. Terrific results. I highly recommend him to anyone in need of. I can really tell he work to serve people, not only for the money.

Top notch attottorney
This is only the 2nd review I’ve ever posted, and both resulted from service that far exceeded my expectations. I met with Evan Watson after researching and talking with two other attorneys about help getting me out of a bone headed mistake I made, and I cannot express how pleased I am to have made the right choice in going with him. It really wasn’t a question after speaking with him, then meeting him. Every aspect of his service- from his friendly welcome, professionalism, attentive listening, confident approach, and effective results- was top notch. Evan told me exactly what he was going to do, and he did just that. You can’t ask for much more than that. I hope this review helps others that may find themselves like I was- someone who made a poor decision and really needed someone to help get them through it. Don’t hesitate to go with Evan if so. I would recommend him to my closest friends and family.

My case was dismissed - you can't ask for a better attorney!!
I left my daughter in the car while I ran a quick--but necessary errand that took less than five minutes. I was arrested and charged with reckless conduct. I had a clean record prior to my arrest. A Reckless conduct charge carries serious penalties and will remain on your criminal record forever. I knew that I needed an experienced and knowledgeable attorney to represent me. I hired Evan. *There is a reason that he has all five star reviews.* He knows the law and works hard to represent his clients. Evan understood how incredibly busy my schedule was and took care of all of my court appearances. He was even able to get my case DISMISSED and I have a clean record again! Simply put - Evan is phenomenal. Please consider hiring him - you won't be disappointed.

DUI Case
During my case Evan payed very close attention to the details and executed as he saw fit. Which was an huge success. This was my first time going to trial for anything— let alone first case ever. So I wasn’t very educated on the process. I was constantly reassured by Evan and his colleagues that everything was going smoothly. I didn’t get the run around—- everyone communicated and was very open and honest— answered the phone and was very prompt. This team took a really ugly situation for me and turned it completely around. My experience was so pleasurable that I’m certain I wouldn’t use any other attorney.

The best choice
Evan Watson couldn't be a better choice. He has helped me on multiple occasions in what seemed like would be impossible cases. He always stays in contact and will work hard on your case. He is very kind and will work with you for whatever you need. For me he has always been able to strike the best deal. Inone case in particular I had 6 pending charges and he was able to get it dropped to 2, one of which was a reduced charge the other will not be on my record. Do not hestitate to call this firm if you are in trouble. You won't be disappointed, I can garuntee it.

Evan Watson and I started on a journey about 2 years ago. He stayed with me the whole time and found a way to keep helping every step of the way. I was able to settle my matter with no long term damage done to my way of life. I appreciate all he did for me.

A true 5 Star Attorney.
A few years ago I was involved in an incident in Atlanta and was charged with disorderly conduct, a city ordinance violation. Typically most people plead guilty, pay the fine, and move on. I'm sure that would have been what I did too but I did not feel comfortable with the wording in the charge and did not feel guilty of what I was accused of in the particular part of the charge . The profession I'm in requires a security clearance and I did not want this to come up down the road and potentially effect my career. I decided I wanted to get a lawyer and see if I could get the charges dropped or at the very least the wording changed. After searching for a few lawyers and discussing my case with them over the phone I came across Evan Watson. I am extremely glad I did! The City Court did not want to budge on the charge or the wording and would not make a plea deal that was satisfactory to me. Evan advised me of my options and let me make the final decision on how to proceed. He said he felt pretty confident that if we transferred the charges there is a good chance the charges could be dropped but there is a risk. I decided to go with his advice and transfer the charges to Fulton County State Court. Now by doing this the charges went from a city ordinance violation to a misdemeanor, certainly a gamble. This was a risk I was willing to take since I knew I had a top notch attorney who would have my back and do everything he could to resolve my case favorably. The case took over a year before it was finally transferred. The profession I'm in also requires me to report any arrest and my company then must disclose this to the government. Since the case took a long time to transfer I was requested multiple times by my companies security group to provide updates. There was even a brief period where I lost my security clearance completely. Evan Watson was able to provide a letter which helped reinstate my clearance and then periodically update the letters so the security team could keep the government up to date and satisfied. The case took another year before it was finally resolved this summer. I do not live in Atlanta and I never had to go down there for any court proceeding Evan Watson handled everything and was able to strike a deal that in the end got the charges completely dismissed and even restricted the record so it will be a little less likely to come up in a future background check. Although it might be the longest city ordinance violation case in Fulton County history I am extremely grateful I went with the advice of my counsel, Evan Watson, and moved forward with the transfer. He will go above and beyond to fight for his clients and work to get a favorable outcome. I recommend him for anyone looking for cream of the crop defense attorney. Evan Watson will go above and beyond to fight for his clients and work to get a favorable outcome. That is exactly what he did for me and I am confident he will do that for anyone that hires him to represent them in court.
