Blindsided by Trial Proceeding and Case Preparation Concerns

I hired Blake Spale for representation in a misdemeanor case and paid a $3,500 fee. Based on my experience, I was not satisfied with the level of preparation or communication leading up to court. On my second court date, the case unexpectedly proceeded to trial that day. From my perspective, I was... not adequately prepared for that outcome. Discovery had not been fully reviewed with me, and I did not feel there had been a meaningful opportunity to prepare witnesses or fully develop a defense strategy prior to trial. The progression of the case at that stage left me feeling blindsided and unprepared in court. After the court date, I attempted to follow up regarding documentation related to testimony important to my case, including requesting an affidavit. Blake responded and asked for the balance to be paid, and after it was paid, he disappeared. Overall, my experience with case preparation and communication did not meet my expectations. I would encourage others to have very clear discussions in advance about discovery, trial readiness, and communication expectations before retaining this attorney.
