General Court Martial, 30 specs

28 Oct 2019, first attorney I called when my case was referred. From the beginning, Mr. Barry was phenomenal. He reviewed the case extremely quickly and provided insight to the allegations and the way ahead for the Court Martial. Way ahead of the timeline, he reached out to all the witnesses, gathere...d statements and prepared to bombard the Government with relevant facts. Through the entire process, Mr. Barry kept me informed and up to date on everything that was happening or going to happen. With everything Mr. Barry did throughout the case, the Government agreed to a Chapter 10 in Lieu of Court Martial due to the lies that Mr. Barry pointed out through the discovery process. When everything was said and done, I am and still am extremely happy with my decision to retain Mr. Barry. Thank you so much Mr. Barry for everything, you are truly a gentleman and a scholar. Thank you for safeguarding my future.

U.S. Navy Veteran

My name is Brian and I wanted to write this comment for everyone to know that Attorney Barry will work very hard for you. Previous to hiring him, I talked to many different law firms. They all gave me the run around and had their paralegals reach back out to me. It was hard to get any information at ...all from them. No one would take my case and they all told me that there was nothing they could do because I needed a discharge upgrade. For 9 years I kept hearing the same thing. I did my own research and submitted my own claim; however, I was still denied by the VA. The day I reached out to Attorney Barry, he, and not a paralegal, did a one hour free consultation with me. He handled my case with optimism and with no promises; but, rather with a pragmatic approach backed by legal analysis. I ended up with a favorable result from the VA after 9 years of fighting because of Attorney Barry. He provided me with legal analysis of my case that I consider of the highest quality. Thank you Attorney Barry! You were instrumental for giving me back my honor that I deserved!

The best

Matthew Barry was my attorney when I faced a court martial earlier this year. I was simply amazed on this guys character as a lawyer, this guy will keep you informed on every level and always be upfront on everything. He will game plan every single angle to include the opposition next step. I had a t...wo day trial and my case was fully dismissed in 29 Minutes, yeah that's right 29 minutes because Matthew Barry on all levels took apart the prosecution. Every time we had a break Matthew Barry would go straight into what he though would be the next approach and always would keep me informed and he never hesitated to ask for advise from me to counsel on the case. Bottom line is if you need a lawyer who is honest to his clients I would highly recommend Matthew Barry.

The man you need

Through a stroke of luck, Attorney Barry was my JAG officer while I was facing officer elimination proceedings, and was able to help me maintain composure and focus on the critical issues through the whole process. He advocated relentlessly on my behalf, gave expert counsel, and was always candid dur...ing our discussions which earned my trust. This trust was vindicated when I was able to receive my desired Honorable Discharge thanks to his efforts. I highly recommend his services to anyone in need of expert counsel regarding military law.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Attorney Barry for your legal needs.

I’m a Captain in the U. S. Army and Attorney Barry represented me during a Board of Inquiry to determine if I was retainable in the Army. A Major General ordered the board to take place and I believed since a General wanted this hearing to happen, I felt I had no hope of being retained. I met wit...h Matthew at the U. S. Army Trial Defense Services office and after explaining what happened he informed me that I had a chance of being retained. That was the first time I had ever had the feeling that I could possibly be retained and save my career. He listened to me and helped me keep calm through the whole process. He worked diligently on my case and always had time to answer my questions or concerns. He was easy to communicate with either in person, by email, by text, or over the phone. Matthew has an exceptionally strong eye for detail that was a benefit to our stance on more than one occasion. He researched state law and determined the prosecutor was planning to use evidence that was expunged and could not be legally used during the board. The prosecutor eventually agreed. He also has a very calm demeanor that was a blessing for myself and character witnesses in and out of the hearing proceedings. He personally worked with all of my character witness and prepared them for the board. Even as the Board date changed, he immediately was on the phone informing all parties involved of the updates. Matthew’s strong sense of organization helped him to always be aware and have the upper-hand in my case. He prepared my defense in a logical order to be presented to the board members. This helped build my case as he walked the Board Members through my military and personal life. The Board recommended that I be retained and I still serve today. Matthew, my family and I are always grateful for the dedication and commitment you showed to my case.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
