Matt Barry Helped Me Rebuild My Life

I worked with Matt Barry for over two years during what was, without question, the most difficult and uncertain time of my life. I was under intense pressure, unsure of what the future held, and needed someone I could trust to walk with me through it. From day one, Matt proved to be more than just a ...great attorney — he was a steady, honest, and compassionate presence when I needed it most. He understands the military legal system inside and out, which is crucial in a world where everything — from structure to consequences — is different. But more than his knowledge, what stood out most was his character, ethics, and communication. He always kept me informed, explained everything clearly, and made sure I never felt in the dark. His consistency, professionalism, and transparency gave me peace of mind when very little else could. In a space where many attorneys will bait you with promises, inflate costs, or treat you like just another case — Matt is the exception. He is one of the most ethical and straightforward professionals I’ve ever worked with. What you see is what you get: honest advice, fair expectations, and a real commitment to doing what’s right. Matt hasn’t forgotten why he chose this work. He hasn’t let power, pride, or greed cloud his purpose. His integrity and loyalty to those in uniform remain rock solid — because he’s been there. He understands what’s at stake, not just legally, but personally and professionally. It’s rare to find someone who’s not only talented and experienced, but who also carries all the intangibles — integrity, empathy, loyalty, and a genuine calling to serve. Matt has helped me in more ways than he may ever know — not just professionally, but in protecting my well-being and giving me a real shot at peace and stability going forward. I thank him sincerely — and so does my family. We will never forget what he did for us. If you’re in the military and facing something that feels overwhelming, you don’t just need legal defense — you need someone who sees you, stands with you, and holds himself to the highest standard. Matt Barry is that kind of lawyer — and that kind of man. Stay in the fight, Matt!

Five Stars

If you are looking for a lawyer to help with a discharge upgrade look no further. I can’t thank Attorney Barry and his Paralegal , Jennifer enough. After 15 years and with the help of this firm I was able to get my discharge upgraded to Honorable. They are always available by phone , text, or email a...nd answer every question thoroughly. They prepared me and set me up for success. I am so happy I hired them and encourage anyone with a similar situation to do the same.

Exceptional Service by a True Legal Expert

From the moment I began working with Matt, it was clear that he approaches every case with the utmost professionalism and attention to detail. As an attorney, he is not only thorough in his document reviews, but he also considers every possible nuance and implication, ensuring that nothing is overloo...ked. Matt’s dedication to his clients is truly remarkable. He takes the time to explain complex legal concepts in a way that is both accessible and reassuring, which has been invaluable to me throughout our work together. The trust and confidence I have in Matt as my legal advisor have grown steadily with each interaction. His integrity, expertise, and genuine concern for his clients’ best interests set him apart in the legal profession. When it comes to military legal matters, Matt’s unique combination of knowledge, experience, and meticulousness is unparalleled. He understands the specific challenges and regulations that service members face, and he navigates them with both skill and compassion. In my opinion, it would be impossible to find anyone better equipped to handle military legal issues than Matt.

With their direct knowledge and experience with JAG, CID and the UCMJ, I felt absolutely confident and relieved that my case was going to be handled with respect and determination! CIDs blatant mistakes have been cor...rected and I feel so relieved knowing I don’t have this hanging over my head anymore! I would not second guess using Matt and his team! Thank you all!

If you need a military defense attorney look no further

I simply do not have enough amazing things to say about Matt! If you are facing any kind of offense/ disciplinary action, you must hire Matt immediately. He checks in almost daily and provides immediate updates. He is patient and ensures that you fully understand what’s going on, and is honest with a...ll the potential outcomes. Although not all commands are equal and there are so many biases in the military justice system, having Matt on your side will set you up for success. He thought about every single detail of my case when crafting our approach to the rebuttal. More than anything, I truly valued how Matt felt like a supportive friend in addition to an extremely knowledgeable attorney. I am an Army O3 with 8 years and no prior disciplinary issues until I made a few bad choices earlier this year. I was accused of falsifying a PT card and unauthorized oconus leave. My command went so far as to accuse me of desertion, as well as of numerous other UCMJ offenses. Matt handled my situation flawlessly, putting together a meticulous rebuttal including statements from friends, family, and coworkers, proving how the unit mishandled my case and mistreated me (he even spent extra time explaining the situation to my mom!). During the rebuttal, my command reopened an old SHARP case in which I was the victim, and Matt supported me through all of that as well. Although I already had separation orders, I knew that I deserved the administrative punishment for my actions. I received a GOMOR, but was still able to ETS on time with an honorable discharge and an award. Matt deserves all the credit for this outcome as well as my sanity throughout a nightmarish 4-month investigation.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
