Courteous, Professional, & Aggressive!

I was facing a serious threat to my military career as a MAJ and physician in the US Army with over 10 years of honorable and dedicated service. I received a general officer memorandum of reprimand for something I didn't do and I had to go through a board of inquiry for separation. I needed a skilled... and experienced military law attorney who could understand my situation and fight for me. Matt Barry was the perfect choice. He helped me craft a powerful and persuasive rebuttal to the reprimand, explaining the facts and circumstances of the case and highlighting my accomplishments and contributions to the Army. He then successfully defended me in the board of inquiry, where he presented evidence and arguments in my favor. He also prepared multiple character witnesses who testified on my behalf, such as my current and previous leaders in my chain of command, colleagues, and subordinates. They all praised my integrity and professionalism as an Army officer and physician. Matt was very meticulous, honest, and confident in his work. If I can pick one adjective to describe Matt, he is aggressive. Thanks to him, I was able to keep my rank and my career. I highly recommend Matt Barry to anyone who needs a military law attorney. He is the best in his field and he will not let you down.

Winning matters!

Matt Barry achieved victory for my battle! As an Army LTC O5 with 17 years of service, I had a lot to lose, and my entire future was on the line. The military legal system is stacked against you and favors the command; don't risk your career or assume that it will be sensible, reasonable or fair to ...you. Matt Barry has the expertise to maneuver the system and achieve the best possible outcome for you. Mr Barry personally handled my case for 7 months from intake to resolution. He was assertive and fought for my rights and my best outcome every step of the way. He took my case serious, explored all angles, talked to all key people, presented hundreds of pages of evidence, and presented a strong oral argument to the Board of Inquiry to defend my career, which resulted in saving my career and future retirement. I interviewed several attorneys, and when I spoke with Mr Barry, I knew I would have an intelligent, aggressive, quick and sharp fighter in my corner ready to fight for me. I am very happy that I hired Mr Barry as my attorney, and highly recommend him to every senior leader, officer, senior NCO, and enlisted person to help you navigate, survive and win your case.

Retained from a Promotion Review Board

After having a received a Referred OER and local GOMOR as a First Lieutenant, I had undergone a Promotion Review Board to see if I was still eligible to be promoted and retained as Captain. I needed to submit a rebuttal to HRC to justify to HRC why I should be retained. I knew I needed professional... help because I desperately wanted to stay in. Upon much online research, I came across Matt Barry. I chose him specifically because he understood military law (as he used to be military himself) and had successful outcomes with cases with PRBs. He was very personable, easy to speak to and quick to get ahold of whenever I needed him. After sending him all of my documentation regarding to the referred OER and previous investigation, he drafted and finalized a rebuttal packet that was then sent to HRC. Since then, HRC came back with the verdict that I am to be retained as a Captain. Meanwhile, another peer who is in a similar situation received his verdict back that he was not retained, but he did NOT use Matt Berry for his rebuttal. My career is finally back on track and I have no one else to thank but Matt Berry for helping me make that possible. I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone who needs legal assistance, especially for Soldiers. He has all my respect and appreciation for what he has done for me. Please consider him as your lawyer/advisor if you are in need of one.

For any Cadet Facing Disenrollment...

I am a cadet that reached out to Mr. Barry for consultation as I was facing the reality of possibly going through the process of disenrollment. Mr. Barry was very straightforward and blunt with how Cadet Command may function to any case. As my case is personal, I will not go into the details of what ...I did to potentially face disenrollment and needed a waiver approved to commission - I will continue to highlight Mr. Barry's patience with me as I went through my endeavor. For any cadet who needs some consultations to make a few decisions or any cadet that is facing a disenrollment board, Mr. Barry will do his best and always give you an honest answer. Sometimes it may be an answer we do not want to hear but it is absolutely necessary. Things had worked out in the best way possible for me and therefore I did not have have to follow through with hiring Mr. Barry but had they went through with a disenrollment board, Mr. Barry would have been my number one choice to be the man in my corner. I may even argue that Mr. Barry did a bit more than he was obligated to - beyond just a few consultations. For that, I must give him my thanks - for his patience. Whatever positive leadership traits he had prior in the military before moving on to private practice, it is obvious that the said said traits followed Mr. Barry in helping those needing some consultations from him or full on help.

Officer Elimination

Attorney drafted all rebuttal matters for retention against my officer elimination. MG Kamper recommended was a general discharge but with Mathew Barry’s help I received an honorable discharge.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
