Successful SSRB Outcome

Matthew Barry is extremely responsive, professional, and knowledgeable. I found Matthew after doing a Google search for lawyers who assist with the Army's new SSRB for reviewing promotions after the list is published. If you are not aware, this process is new. Matthew and I both were in uncharted wat...ers; however, he applied his same advocacy and knowledge base from experience with similar DOD processes to this new, undefined "administrative action." As a lawyer myself I followed the age-old adage, "never represent yourself." However, I know if I was going to find someone to represent me I wanted them to be proficient. That is exactly what I got with Matthew. Additionally, I needed someone who could work fast. The Army in all of its excellence decided to do the Microsoft 365 transition; however, traditional guardsmen were last in line to get the upgrade. Once I finally got my new email account, I learned that I was already 2 weeks late in turning in my rebuttal to the SSRB board. I was able to reach out and get a 2-week extension; when the original process was meant to be a month. I called Matthew and let him know my dilemma and he immediately went to work. I produced to him all the information I had. He made a few out-of-the-box suggestions that were specific to my case and we were able to submit the rebuttal with plenty of time to spare. Not only was Matthew effective and efficient, but his price was also very fair. After about 9 months of waiting, I finally received an email letting me know that my promotion was sustained and my flag was lifted. I will tell anyone who will listen that if you are in this type of predicament, do not try to handle it by yourself. I'm an attorney and the procedural rules of the game are so convoluted that you could find yourself making the smallest misstep that could cost you years of time or possibly your career. You should definitely hire Matthew to help you navigate this process. With very few people even knowing how this process works, Matthew in contrast has a proven track record of success.

CID Investigation with possible court martial

I consulted with Mr. Barry when I was called to come in for an interview with CID, he explained the process and possible outcomes and what next steps to take. I was extended past my ETS date, pulled off of terminal leave with a possibility of a court-martial, and instructed to return to Texas from ...Tennessee. Mr. Barry was able to meet with me in my limited timeframe before returning to my duty station to address my questions and concerns. Throughout about a 6-month timeframe he was always available, communicated, walked me through concerns, and went out of his way to ensure everything was handled correctly. I ended up being able to ETS without an issue. With a prior legal matter, I had consulted with JAG and always felt somewhat neglected. I highly recommend Mr. Barry for his expertise, outstanding communication, and engagement.

JAGs were wrong and Matthew was right

I was told by 3 Army Lawyers that I couldn't resign with an honourable. Within minutes of our first conversation Matthew told me they were wrong and showed me exactly where it says they were wrong. I hired him immediately and got my honorable resignation and the rest is history. Albeit it was the mos...t expensive piece of paper I've ever paid for but it was worth it. I get to keep GI Bill, VA, clearance, go into the reserves if I desire to do so and much more, so small price to pay in the end. Extremely reachable, knowledgeable and exactly what you need when the Military Justice fails and seems like the whole system is against you. Trust it is worth it.

ROTC Cadet

Attorney Matt Barry was instrumental in assisting me to successfully defend myself against false allegations in a 15-6 investigation and subsequent disenrollment board hearing from ROTC. Although he wasn’t allowed to speak for me during the hearing, his assistance in helping me prepare my presentati...on and my examination of witnesses was invaluable. His legal knowledge, thorough dedication, and practical insight put me at ease when it seemed that the entire process was tilted against me. Moreover, he was extremely responsive to my many inquiries and I was never in the dark about what was coming next. I have little doubt that I would not be able to pursue my military career had it not been for his efforts. If you are ever in trouble, Matt Barry is the lawyer you want on your side!

Hire Mr. Barry if you’re tired of TDS failing you

I was facing a GOMOR and separation. The process is long and arduous. TDS is understaffed by design and administrative punishment does not supersede UCMJ, reasonably so. I decided to hire an attorney and Mr. Barry was the most competent and experienced attorney I consulted. Once hired, he took the ba...ll and ran with it. Mr. Barry handled my GOMOR and BOI. Although the GOMOR was filed permanently, the BOI went in my favor. Money well spent and you won’t regret it.

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
