Will Fight for you when all the chips are Down!

Mr Matthew Barry was nothing but professional in our business together. He rates were fair and honest but very affordable. He gave a full written contract and fought as hard as he could for me and my circumstances. It really helped my peace of mind during the entire procedure. I unfortunately never h...ad the pleasure of meeting him in person because he gets a lot of business! And is very busy in court most of the time~ Even still, Mr Barry made me a priority and took care of all my needs. He even explained the process better than my command could. He has so much experience in winning these types of cases! He definitely reassured me and worth much more than the amount I paid for his retainer. Strongly recommend contacting him to see if he can help you as well!

Mr. Barry Review

Mr. Barry helped me acquire a General discharge from the Army instead of an OTH. The free military lawyer wouldn’t even answer the phone. He uses logic and reason to come up with simple yet affective ways to get what you want. He doesn’t sugarcoat or exaggerate, he just generates a plan then executes.... Take the fight back to these turds.

GOMOR Rebuttal

Attorney Barry was a pleasure to work with! I assume he had a case load at the time of helping me. However, I would have never been able to tell. He gave my case the attention that exceeded my expectations. He conducted interviews on my behalf with people worldwide and never made excuses for time dif...ferences or geographical separation. He listened to my story and was able to help me sort facts and emotions to draft a successful rebuttal. His knowledge of the military legal system is superb and he demonstrated a unique ability to communicate with military lawyers and leaders to achieve a desirable outcome. He was willing to take the case as far as necessary to ensure justice was served. My family and I are grateful that I had Attorney Barry in my corner! Thank you, sir!

Helped in Army Promotion Board

Matthew Barry wrote a very detailed rebuttal letter to explain a situation about why I got a GOMOR involving an alcohol incident due to a suicidal soldier. The board agreed and I was promoted.

DUI | GOMOR

As I searched for representation, I had a plethora of options. However, after carefully researching the best attorney for my situation, I came across Matthew Barry. I was immediately drawn to his endless five-star reviews on Avvo. I often re-read those reviews to help me calm down. Initially, althoug...h I was considering representation, I thought that I could handle the GOMOR rebuttal independently. I believed it to be nothing more than a letter of reprimand. It is in fact that, but it also comes with an abundance of documentation from credible sources that aims to prove your guilt, beyond a reasonable doubt. After I received the GOMOR, along with a pound of additional disparaging discovery, I immediately called and hired Matthew Barry. His initial, professional opinion was "this kid is f***ed." However, after I gave a detailed account, from my prospective, we were able to create a strong rebuttal. This included an articulate framework, medical paperwork, character references, research and a criminal background check. My commander initially told me that I was just facing a filing decision for the GOMOR; however, as time continued, I was being informed that there may be UCMJ action and/or separation. This information was given to me after I received the GOMOR and hired Matthew Barry, but before they read the GOMOR rebuttal. It took the general less than two weeks to make his filing decision. The GOMOR was filed permanently; the least favorable filing decision. In my attorney's defense, that filing decision was expected. Although I believe we had a strong, convincing defense, it is my understanding that 95% of all DUI GOMORS are filed permanently. The filing of the GOMOR was not my concern. My concern was not being separated, and if we can pull it off, I'd be happy to take no UCMJ action either; which was definitely wishful thinking. Wishful as that thinking may have been, I received no UCMJ action. Additionally, of course, I was not separated. Given the details of this case, which of course you are not privy to, this was nothing short of a miracle. I went from the kid that didn't have a prayer, to the kid that was retained with no UCMJ action. Yes, the permanently filed GOMOR is not something I'll be nailing to the achievement wall; however, it's my understanding that that can eventually be repudiated or placed in my restricted file. Therefore, not visible to promotion boards or anyone else that may matter. In conclusion, I'm very satisfied with my decision to hire Matthew Barry. And, if you find yourself up the Army's creek without a paddle, I'd highly recommend retaining Matthew Barry as counsel.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
