Case dismissed, records expunged!

I hired Matthew Crowley as counsel, and he handled my case very well. I had no prior experience with the court system and had a lot of (mostly basic) questions, and he answered all of them with patience and clarity. He was willing and able to explain each step of the process, including his actions (e....g. requesting a continuation) and why he took them in this case. My case was dismissed before the trial date, largely in part due to his work, and he did the work to have my records expunged. Thank you, Matthew!

Excellent Attorney

Matthew represented me in an alleged weapons violation. He was able to negotiate with the Prosecutor and all charges were dropped. He also informed me he can have my arrest charge eliminated from public record. He gave me prompt, courteous and professional attention throughout the process. I highly r...ecommend him.

Basically not interested in his client

Essentially, Matthew Crowley was referred to me after my lawyers were switched around. It took MULTIPLE tries for him to contact me, which he never did. After 3 phone calls, and the DAY BEFORE my trial, he decides to call me and asks why I am concerned and that nothing can happen until the day of the... trial. I say okay and am, of course, concerned for my trial. I asked him if the papers I was going to provide were okay and he agreed that they were. The day of my trial was fine as I had asked him what to expect, and he says he's not sure, which is (of course) understandable. He tells me I should not expect my misdemeanors to be dropped, which is exceptionally disheartening. What ended up happening is that the prosecutor said that my community service that I had completed beforehand was good, but didn't look authentic. This is where I am most disappointed in Mr. Crowley because I had specifically ASKED if the format of my community service was fine and he said it was. This conversation happened over the phone after I had called him and his law firm 4 times to make sure everything was okay. I believe that had I brought a more formal account of my community service, I could've had my charge reduced even further. He was overall very detached from me as a client and did not care very much about the state I was in. However, I let this all go because my charge had been reduced as I had no prior charges. I was grateful. I have called and contacted his law firm maybe 7-10 times in order to get my charge expunged, and have received very little response. He responded once and when I had follow-up questions (which is my right), he never responded. If he is to dismiss me and think it is right to ignore his client then so be it, and it is my right to write this review and inform everyone of his negligence. If he does want to work on my expungement with me then he should let me know. I have given him 2 stars for getting the bare minimum job done, but nothing else. He is a sub-par lawyer, and I would NOT recommend him to anyone who wants someone who will thoroughly go through your case with you. Because I am young, I felt as if he was not taking my case seriously. Please avoid him at all costs!

After a thorough review I do not appear to have received any of the communications described in this review, nor does this match up to any client I have had who I am aware of. I suspect this to be a fake and invite whoever wrote it to reach out to me directly.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
