About Emily
Biography
Emily has dedicated her entire career to the practice of family law, working for some of the most respected firms in Virginia and the D.C. Metropolitan area. In addition to separation, divorce, child custody and support, alimony, domestic violence protection, prenuptial agreements, and equitable distribution, Emily has represented clients in numerous adoption cases, including domestic, stepparent, second parent, and foster parent adoptions.
It was Emily’s personal experience with family law that drew her to this practice area. Her parents divorced amicably when she was a young adult, but required her involvement within the divorce process. Being personally involved in that process made her interested in helping other families navigate the challenges of their own family law situation.
A compassionate adviser to her clients, Emily is also a tenacious litigator with extensive courtroom experience and a reputation for meticulous preparation of every case. She devises a detailed road map for meeting her clients’ goals, keeping them informed and empowered at every step of the process. Emily excels at the strategy of the litigation process and likens it to playing chess, but she is mindful that her work is no game; every move she makes has a real and lasting effect on her clients and their children.
It is because of the opportunity to make a direct impact in the lives of her clients that Emily enjoys practicing family law. Whether helping clients unwind their marriage or to expand their family through adoption or assisted reproductive technology law, Emily is intensely focused upon their needs. As a parent herself, she understands her clients’ concerns for their children on a personal level as well as a professional one.
A native of Fairfax County, Virginia, Emily was born in Alexandria and grew up in nearby Clifton. She attended college at the University of South Carolina, from which she graduated with high honors. She returned to the Washington, D.C. area to study and practice law.
