BEWARE

Terrible attorney no morals or ethics I should have definitely reported her to the disciplinary council. She tried to drop me as her client a few days before we went to court for a custody hearing but the judge did not allow her to do so due to such short notice. Due to this my daughter ended up with... her mother and mother’s boyfriend who was touching her inappropriately in which SVU had to get involved. Laura was also aware that this guy was on the most wanted list from law enforcement and it was not in my daughters best interest to be in the home with her mother. After wanting to no longer represent me Laura then had the nerve to try and send me a bill for payment after doing myself and my child a disservice. She is not the type of attorney you want to hire especially when your child’s livelihood is at risk. Laura has definitely did me and my family a disservice

Custody and divorce

Laura did not help me understand anything about divorce or custody. She was very passive aggressive and unprofessional in the court room and to the other party. She was very rude, yells and rolls her eyes! I felt didn’t help guide me the right way. After reading these reviews she must of had people p...aid to write these reviews!

Not good with domestic violence victims

I had a nasty custody battle and divorce. I still do not feel educated on my rights at all. Ms. Brooks advised me to file a PFA, then advised me to drop it at the hearing (despite more acts of abuse and no contact violations in between) She completely misled me on “stipulation of dismissal and interi...m custody agreement”. My emotionally and physically abusive ex threw out marital property, stole checks, forged my name, and accused me of stealing from the home. She did not answer my questions and I was forced to sign another insurance check in court (at custody hearing) Ms. Brooks told me to sign it and it would be worked out in the ancillary hearing.. between the custody hearing and divorce pretrial she continually asked about the paperwork, but did not answer my questions regarding the fraud and how it would be worked out. She then filed a motion to drop me as a client days before the pretrial conference- since i didn’t send the papers back without my questions being answered- as I didn’t want to get screwed. So I was left at pretrial conference alone to defend myself against another attorney - who made it clear she & ms brooks discussed my case a lot during their personal relationship.. The worst of it all is that she forwarded my emails to my ex’s attorney without my consent. I believed i was speaking in confidence and my own emails to my lawyer were entered as evidence against me.. and had I known my ex would have seen it- i wouldn’t have sent it at all. That significantly strained the relationship as I wasn’t sure how to speak to her about anything anymore for fear of my ex. I made it clear I was trying to ensure I got full custody- at least primary residency, and specifically asked for a lawyer understanding narcissism and emotional abuse. I strongly advise a different attorney - especially if you are the victim of abuse.

Bad Attitude

I agree with another review that said Laura seemed kind upfront. That ends quickly. In the court room and in front of other lawyers Laura has been rude and ineffective. She yells and rolls her eyes and she has even been talked to by our judge for her attitude. When I had a payment issue she became ru...de to me. When I was upset about her raising her rates even though she lost, she told me it was normal and to get over it. Rude. I wouldn’t recommend.

I apologize that you felt this way. As the post is anonymous, it is certainly hard to reply with any details. I am a very upfront person; the same person you meet in my office, is the same person I am in Court. I work vigorously for my clients and I believe I am well respected by my colleagues and the bench for that passion.

Terrible Lawyer

If you don't have the time or money to waste than I highly recommend not picking Laura Brooks as your legal counsel. She was recommended as being the best. Maybe she was years ago but not now. She don't like to meet in person or talk on the phone. She don't keep you updated on your case unless you ...reach out to her. She file motions late which gives the judge reason to deny them. She's too impersonal instead of being professional when needing to be. She with drew from my case a day before trial due to her "not liking to be questioned about not informing me in a timely manner." She's being paid to work for me and my children best interest. This left me with a lot of adding on stress, time and money wasted, disappointment and confusion. She showed up to trial to only make sure the judge granted her motion to withdrawal. She left my file, which I notice some of my exhibits that was suppose to be presented during trial was missing. Also she charge me for coming to court the day of trial and a couple of other things that she shouldn't gotten paid for. She's a joke! Laura was my first family court lawyer and she was the worst pick ever!! I know what to look for in my next legal counsel and it won't be someone like Laura Brooks.

I am very sorry you felt that way about my representation. I continually provided you with honest and professional representation. Unfortunately, it was clear we did not have the relationship needed between a client and attorney and needed to part ways so that you could find the attorney who could meet your demands. I freely gave you your entire file and all exhibits so that your next attorney would not need to waste time catching up. Again, I am sorry you felt the way you did but I wish you and the kids the best in the future.
