Biography
David Manes is a Pittsburgh employment lawyer and business attorney who represents employees, entrepreneurs, and small businesses throughout Western Pennsylvania. He is a Managing Partner and founding partner of Manes & Narahari LLC, a litigation-focused law firm based in Pittsburgh.
David’s practice focuses primarily on employment law, business law, and civil litigation. He represents employees in cases involving discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, retaliation, unpaid wages, overtime violations, FMLA violations, disability discrimination, age discrimination, pregnancy discrimination, race discrimination, military service discrimination, and other workplace disputes. He also represents small businesses, entrepreneurs, shareholders, business partners, and employers in contract disputes, partner disputes, business litigation, LLC formation, startup issues, buy-sell agreements, commercial contracts, and general business matters.
David works with clients in Pittsburgh and across Western Pennsylvania, including Allegheny County, Butler County, Beaver County, Washington County, Westmoreland County, Armstrong County, Lawrence County, and surrounding areas. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania state courts and in the United States District Courts for the Western, Middle, and Eastern Districts of Pennsylvania.
In addition to practicing law, David teaches and writes about law, business, and entrepreneurship. He serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Duquesne School of Law, where he teaches an original course on entrepreneurship and the law. He also serves as an Instructor at Butler County Community College. David frequently speaks to business owners, professionals, and community groups, including presentations for BNI, TING, local colleges, networking groups, and other community events.
David is the co-author of “The Entrepreneur’s Counsel: Practical Legal Guidance for Starting & Running a Business,” a practical legal guide for entrepreneurs and small business owners. His business law background is also informed by his own experience as an entrepreneur and by years of advising startups, growing companies, and business owners facing difficult legal decisions.
Before founding Manes & Narahari LLC, David worked with clients at Sain Law, LLC and the Kisner Law Firm. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he served as a staff editor for JURIST, participated on the Moot Court Board, and won the Murray S. Love Mock Trial Competition. He also earned the John P. Gismondi Certificate of Advanced Study in Civil Litigation, the Dean’s Award, the Murray S. Love Award, and the Donald Moritz Award. Before law school, David graduated summa cum laude from Harding University with a degree in Political Science.
David has represented hundreds of clients in employment, business, and litigation matters. His work has included significant settlements and results in business partner disputes, discrimination cases, wrongful termination cases, unpaid wage and overtime cases, employee class actions, contract disputes, and other litigation matters.
David’s pro bono work has included assisting low-income clients through Neighborhood Legal Services and Christian Legal Aid.
