After a 2-year court battle over a "right-turn on red" in Manhattan for which the NYPD attempted to criminalize via 2-charges related to DWI and Driving While Impaired, Attorney Rachel Kugel took my case to a jury-trial and won it - receiving a verdict of "not guilty" on both charges. We were up against the testimony of 2 NYPD police officers and a jury of my peers found me not guilty of any wrong-doing. It is disheartening that a prosecutor wasted tax-payers dollars (including mine) and brought a case to trial such as this where clearly there was no evidence to suggest any wrongdoing. Although I have much respect for law enforcement because they protect us everyday, this case proves that they are not always right and we as citizens have a right to challenge them through the legal process. Mrs. Kugel possibly lost money on my case because she had to appear in court alongside me at least 10 times because this case had been drawn out for 2 years unfortunately. She charged me a flat rate and never asked for anything more. This experience has taught me to reflect on certain things relative to society. One of the more reflective moments was the fact that those who may be indigent and not have the means to hire an attorney to defend them have to settle for whatever punishment is passed down to them. It seems extremely unfair that someone's life could be ruined because the police made a judgment call that was proven to be unsubstantiated by a jury in a court of law. I was fortunate to have the means to secure a lawyer and thanks to God I was able to pick the best one..... Attorney Rachel Kugel. During every examination or cross-examination of witnesses, she was able to elicit every single detail - both large and small - to render reasonable doubt, ultimately providing me with an acquittal on all charges.
