I got a speeding ticket in VA for going 87 in a 75 mph zone (it was a very steep hill and we live in a very flat area of MD). Being from MD, I did not realize that anything over 80 could result in a felony misdemeanor conviction and a fine up to $2,500+. For the first time in my life I found myself in a situation that was not even my fault. Due to a faulty DSS paperwork, apparently I had a protective order on me that I did not know, because of not so nice guy I was put in the middle of a situation. I went to purchase a fire arm 3 years later to get a... call from a state trooper who wanted to charge me with a felony. I was so scared, I didn't know what to do. So the state trooper told me I needed to get the protective order dropped first, I did get that completed when DSS was quick to get this matter cleared up.
