Chad Raymond Maddox

It all started April 11th, 2014 when a bunch of close friends went out bar hoping in downtown Huntington Beach for a bachelor party. We bounced around from bar to bar drinking, eating, smoking, and joking the soon marriage of a good friend. I thinking I was being the responsible one shut it down an... hour and half before I left, not to mention I had to be to work by 6am the next day. Well as you can tell my decision-making wasn’t the best and it didn’t end too well for me. I left the parking structure on Walnut and 2nd Street and proceeded down to 1st Street. I then proceeded onto 1st and headed toward PCH. While sitting at the light I noticed flashing lights and cones, which looked like construction. I pondered for a few seconds and thought construction, this time of the night? Well it wasn’t construction, but rather a DUI checkpoint that had no escape route. About 9:35pm I was one of the randomly selected vehicles and pulled over. Officer Demetre approached my vehicle asked me numerous questions and drilled me as I was in basic training. While in aw of his questions my responses we respectful and cordial the entire time. Not knowing your rights when going through a DUI checkpoint I sang like a bird. I told him I have been drinking and what I was doing earlier that evening. After the initial questioning I was then asked to perform a field sobriety test, which at the time I didn’t know you could refuse. It is your Constitutional Right to do so, however if you refuse this test you must submit a BAC test via blood or breathalyzer or you will be immediately taken to a jail and an automatic one year suspension of your license. Once my field sobriety test was done I chose to do a blood test. (A week later found my BAC was 0.13%) I was then placed under arrest of the suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and taken to HB jail. Once we arrived at HB jail, this was my first time in jail you are treated like dirt. After four hours of freezing my butt off I was released. All I could think of was the major ramifications were going to come with a DUI and how it was going severely affect my wife, three small children, and livelihood. The next day at work was miserable as I only had two hours of sleep and my mind was going a million miles a second thinking about what DUI attorney to contact, the fines, jail time, etc? Within a few days your mail and email will be flooded with DUI attorney papers and pamphlets, which is embarrassing especially if you have a good relationship like I do with my mailman. After about a week I finally made the decision with my wife over prayer to choose DUI Attorney Chad Maddox. I knew he was genuine when he gave personal time to meet with me. Chad came out to where I live and we had a one on one. We went over the details and I gave him all the papers that came from the DMV and HBPD. Once we parted ways Chad immediately went to work on my case. Throughout Chad worked tirelessly and diligently on my case. As we were gearing for trial on a Monday I received a phone call Friday around 10am from Tobias saying that we won the case and it was dismissed. Words can’t explain the relief, as tears of joy flowed, the happiness, and my new lease on life. From day one Chad was on a mission all the way through the Appellate to Appeals Court. Chad did a great job on my case.  He explained the process to me in detail and did exactly what he promised.    I hired chad to handle my dmv adminstrative hearing after i had personally tried and failed.  I also filed an appeal on my own and lost.  This was my 2nd dui in 10 years so it was important... to have a knowledgeable attorney handle my case.  My license was suspended for one year.  Chad reveiwed my file and was able to determine the strenghths and weaknesses.  Chad got me a new hearing with the dmv.  He attended the hearing and argued my case in detail.  The dmv overturned their decision and gave me my license back.  I counldnt be happier with the results.  

Last year I found myself in need of a Lawyer. I wanted one close to home with experience in the field that I needed him or her for. After talking to a few lawyers I chose Chad Maddox. He was very personable, professional and understanding. He carefully explained my options and reviewed his credential...s. His prices were fair, so I decided to let Mr. Maddox handle my case. Whenever I had a question he and his staff were easy to talk to and except for the period of time he was moving his practice to Anaheim Hills, he was easy to get in touch with. My calls were returned in a timely matter when no one was available. In court I could tell Mr. Maddox was very prepared. He explained that our case was a long shoot, but he had found cases that would support his argument. Around the courthouse you could tell by his interactions with others, that he was well respected by his colleagues. During our trial he presented the case very well and our Judge who was very fair agreed with his argument. Unfortunately it was not enough to win the case. He offered me the opportunity to appeal, but I declined because I just wanted to get this behind me. Mr. Maddox turned what could have been a painful process into a manageable one. I would definitely recommend him, but hope I don't have to!

My case: My second DUI offense in 2 years. BAC of .24 (no business being near a car) Facing 45 days, plus all the fines and classes Mr Maddox was successfull in striking my first offense DUI. On the first offense, there were some issues in the way the court's pape...r work was processed that showed I had not given up my rights to a jury trial. Maddox quickly saw this flaw in their case against me and was confident I had a good shot at the appeal. My first lawyer had argued the same points; but was unsuccessful and recommended Mr. Maddox feeling that it was a winable case and that Maddox would have a good shot a reversing the decision. The appeal took 6 months to come around and Maddox told me I did not have to be there and that there was nothing I could do but watch if I was there. I chose to stay home. The appeal came back and when he read it to me it was hard to tell if it was in my favor or not! Maddox explained to me how the Appeals Court response works, that they word the decision so the lower court judge can keep their initial decision or change it and still save face. The day of court, Mr. Maddox was prompt and waiting when my wife and I arrived. He now answered all the questions my wife had about the situation including all the options good or bad. It put her at ease. When we went in front of the judge, the DA went first with his arguments for keeping the prior. Although longed-winded, the case against me sounded strong, Then, Mr. Maddox gave our argument in a straight forward, logical manner, one by one, countering all the points that the DA had made and, he didn't take all afternoon to do it. The same judge, with the same facts, now reversed his own decision and struck down my prior! I was now back on a first offense. When we were out of the courtroom discussing the win, Mr. Maddox pointed out flaws that the DA had made in presenting the case and strategy they could have used but didn't. This underscored his understanding of both defense and prosecution. After, Maddox had some time before his next court appointment, so he spent the next hour walking me through the various clerks, making sure that the records showed I now had a first offense instead of a second and hopefully preventing any issues that could pop up later. This would have taken me hours on my own. I have great confidence in Mr. Maddox's ability as an defense and appeals lawyer.c
