All bark no bite

We ended up firing her. Communications broke down almost immediately stopped returning calls and emails. Lost or would not read documents vital to case and had to resend multiple times. She would come up with a strategy and then abandon it without explanation then get mad at you for asking about it. ...She would wait till last minute to communicate during negotiations making the process rushed. Unprofessional, she actually answered the phone with “what do we have to talk about” not hello when the other attorney wanted information she emailed last minute and I had questions on. Her insults to my ex-wife were offensive to me, and I don’t have anything good to say about my ex! It was unreal. We were responsive and polite to her. I would say if you hire her proceed with caution. Family law is not her strong suit and like most lawyers know emotions run high with family law, she’s not built for it. Disorganized, lack of knowledge, rude, petulant, and lazy.

Gave up on my case

We hired Betsy to represent us in a collections case where the collections lawyer placed a law suit against my spouse and me. The suit was bogus and we filed a counterclaim due to the fact that the collections lawyer failed to validate our debt after we sent them a certified dispute and validation le...tter. Betsy told us the other party wanted to drop the suit and just part ways. We agreed to this and then 2 years pass and we get a summons to appear for the same case. We call Betsy and she says she lost the papers that were signed from the other party stating they were dropping the suit. So we said let's go to trial since we have a easy case and a guaranteed counterclaim through FDCPA laws. Betsy wanted more money to go to trial even though we initially agreed to a flat fixed fee. Once Betsy knew we weren't giving her more money her attitude changed fast. She decided we should offer the other party a settlement instead of going to trial. Our case went from a easy counterclaim and dismissal of their claim to us giving them a settlement. I would never recommend her to anybody and I would be very careful if she is your lawyer now.

I am very sorry that the client was unhappy. However, the client, I believe, paid a fee for me to attempt to settle the case and write a counterclaim as part of that strategy. The client in the review states I charged a flat fee for the entire case including litigation. I do not believe this to be true. I believe it was a fee I quoted for the initial phase through settlement. The case was verbally settled by the opposing law firm but unfortunately they had excessive turnover and the new attorney later assigned had no record of our verbal agreement. I did not lose anything from the case. When the case became active again, I informed the client of the situation, and explained that this phase required additional fees. While I was unable to settle the case in favor of my client, whose requirement was that he pay nothing, I do not think his assessment of the case is fair and balanced.

HORRIBLE ATTORNEY

At first Betsy was a very kind and considerate person. I had a child custody, visitation, and child support case. She seemed to really know her stuff and took care of the matters that needed to be addressed but when it was time tp go to court she basically just sat back and did nothing. She never p...resented any of the evidence I had which was very important to my case and would have helped tremendously. She didn't stand up for me wt all and just took whatever the judge dished out. When I had issues with my daughter's father on him violating the court order repeatedly she never did anything to help he basically got away with all the violations that he did. Also after we went to court the child support issue was supposed to be dealt with, figured out, and I shouldve been getting my child support but I'm not and its been 3 months and every time I questioned her about it I was told it takes time. Ive filed for child support myself before and it NEVER took 3 months. Shes very lazy and never calls you back and also if betsy and her secretary know your # and know that your a persistent person and demand answers they won't even answer the phone. I had full trust and faith in her that she would help me and my case but nothing got resolved. If I would've known the type of person she is and how she operates I NEVER would've wasted a dime on her. Shes literally the worst attorney ive ever met. Unless you want to do all the leg work yourself DO NOT hire this woman!!

Watch Out!

Attorney Walits was very unprofessional, to say the least! She often held meetings with me and even came to court with wet hair as if she was not completely ready for the day. On occassion she used swear words in an attempt to show her disdain for my husband and his attorney's tactics. At the time I ...thought nothing of it, but in hindsight, I realize it was an attempt to bolster her credibility and make me feel more secure in her ability to take care of my case. She was more words than action! She would never provide a written statement as to where I stood financially with her. She made promises that were not kept, and seemed to only want to drag out my case for more money. I felt I was not represented well, and eventually let her go only to hire a new attorney to finish a job she was not well equipped to do. I chose her because her claim was that of a child advocate, and she claimed to make divorce easier on the children. In the end, she did more harm to my children during the divorce because I was constantly worried about not being well represented. I know this is only my opinion, but if it helps even one person, then it was worth it! Divorce is not easy on anyone involved. Do your homework, and choose your attorney wisely!

Opposite of Stree Free Legal Solutions

After reading other reviews on Betsy, I would never had imagined the type of unprofessionalism I experienced with her. Her website claims she provides stress free legal solutions and yet it was the exact opposite. I constantly had to remind Betsy what we had last discussed (just days earlier!), rese...nd her numerous documents that I sent and she lost, follow-up multiple times to get a response on issues that were time sensitive. She would schedule my appointment on top of others and she even had what she referred to as an "emotional breakdown" of sorts near our court date and basically telling me she couldn't do anymore for me, days away from the final deadline. I know reviews can be tricky, because it's only one side of the story and you don't know who I am, but I can't begin to explain the stress and overwhelming fear of talking with a lawyer who you are paying top dollar for, and having to remind them of items and plans you had discussed just days earlier. It felt like she forgot about you, if she wasn't talking to you in that moment. And to resend send document after document and then have her complete documents wrong and have to basically guider her, my lawyer, through the process. Here is an example of Betsy's incompetence. While we were preparing for court and hoping to settle before, Betsy suggested an offer that I agree'd to try with my Ex. Then a week later I followed up with her to see if she had sent over the offer. Not only had she not sent any offer over to the opposing council, she rebuked me for coming up with such a complicated solution...EVEN THOUGH IT WAS HER IDEA A WEEK EARLIER! You should never feel smarter or more organized or more informed on a legal situation than your lawyer, that's what they are suppose to be for, and yet, I constantly felt like I was leading her instead of the other way around.
