I am a CLC Member and contacted Charles Shane for consultation on a semi-complicated, small claims issue. The issue: months ago my husband, while in the country for a short time, made a verbal agreement with a local gym to only pay a month at a time for membership using his credit card. When he left ...the country, the gym continued to charge his credit card each month, which he unfortunately didn't notice until months later when he was back in the country and they had sent him a "failure to process payment" email. The gym's third party payment service would not refund my husband the roughly $1,200 amount, saying that it wasn't their fault he didn't notice the unauthorized payments. Charles gave me some great advice by suggesting I first, go straight to the credit card company and report the payments as unauthorized transactions and see if the credit card company would "fix" the situation. Then, if that doesn't work, go to court and sue the gym owner. Since my husband didn't sign anything, not even a liability waiver for the gym, we wouldn't have a problem succeeding in court. Charles spoke very "matter-of-factly", was very easy to talk with and answered all my questions. I left the conversation feeling confident that I could take care of the issue myself, and that if I did end up needing an attorney, he would be there to help me.
