Big Ego and nothing to back it up

I unfortunatley retained Mr. Browne's services several years ago for a criminal matter. I was told that Mr. Browne was a good attorney if you could get past his ego. Mr. Browne had several months almost a year to prepare for the trial. I found that every time I spoke to Mr. Browne it was like he w...as hearing the details of the case for the first time all over again. At trial Mr. Browne was basically clueless as to the details and pertinant information about my case. I basically had to hand feed information to him as the trial went along and give him questions to ask the witnesses. Mr. Browne refused most of the infornation that I gave him and acted like he knew everything which he did not. I was mistakenly found guilty on one misdemeanor charge. When I approached Mr. Browne about appealing the verdict, he told me that I did not have any basis for an appeal. He told me that it was only a misdemeanor and it was not worth appealing. After Mr. Browne realized that I was not going to give up and just accept a wrongful conviction, he charged me an outrageous amount for the appeal which he then handed over to another attorney who was not in his firm. This attorney did a wonderful job and aggreed that I was wongfully convicted. She ultimatley wrote the appeal and all of the arguements. The day of oral arguements for the appeal Mr. Browne just showed up and read what the other attorney had written and was basically clueless again as to the facts of the case. I won the appeal and the conviction was overturned, no thanks to Mr. Browne.

A caring attorney

Mr. Browne comes with a great reputation. That is a tough thing to live up to every day. However when you go to court, even the bailifs and court personnel know that they are in the presence of a great lawyer. He is very compassionate to his clients. He took me on, when no one else cared. At first I ...thought that the "deal" he got for me was just o.k., but as I look back with better vision. He did a great job. He saved me three years on another case where I received 60 days instead. He was able to show the judge the REAL story instead of the b.s. that the prosecutor was trying to snow the judge with. As with all "great" people, they often operate on the edge, because they are knowledgeable and able. Mr. Browne knows when to press the opening to obtain results. Often brilliant, sometimes demur as necessary to obtain results. Each judge is different and therefore requires a different approach. Mr. Browne has mastered this. The AVVO rating is subjective without inspection. I wish there were more John Henry Brownes in this world and if there were, there would be greater justice in this world. Thanks Mr. Browne you took care of me when no one else cared.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
