Frank D. Prestia is an attorney, inventor, and founder with nearly 35 years of real-world business, real estate, and technology experience as an entrepreneur, shareholder, and executive officer of various enterprises.
Frank's work in technology started early. He studied computer programming and machine learning in the 1980s, worked as a computer designer and tutor to fund his education, and programmed his first e-commerce website in 1999. He has been actively involved with online businesses since 2006 and has watched artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the Internet of Things develop across that span, which is what led him to apply his legal expertise to the emerging challenges and opportunities in the digital domain. He co-founded Melting & Filling Equipment, Inc., operating as WaxMelters and SoapMelters, and designed the industrial thermal systems now in service at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Blue Origin, Lockheed Martin, and manufacturers across more than forty industries.
He graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Philosophy from SUNY Geneseo, with a Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship and the Craig Knoche Philosophy Award, and earned his JD from St. John's University School of Law, where he served on the Real Property Law Society while working for two law firms and interning with the New York State Appellate and Supreme Courts and the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District. He later served as President of his law school's Justinian Law Society Alumni Association.
Frank has broad experience across real estate and business. He bought his first investment property in 1991 and has since participated as owner, investor, developer, landlord, and broker, founding a real estate investment company and serving as principal and designated broker of a commercial real estate brokerage and a member of the Commercial Brokers Association. He has established and operated businesses in financial and estate planning, fitness, wholesale and retail distribution, foreclosure listing services, and manufacturing, and spent two years consulting to an international franchise company. He serves as Chief Compliance Officer of Hydra Capital Group and as Chief Legal Officer for an investment holding company, a wealth advisory, and an international manufacturing company.
Frank is a member of the American Bar Association, Washington State Bar Association, King County Bar Association, and Federal Bar Association (Washington Chapter). He serves on the Federal Bar Association's Continuing Legal Education and Intellectual Property Committees, the King County Bar Association's Intellectual Property, Continuing Legal Education, and Judicial Candidate Evaluation Sections, and the Washington State Bar Association's Intellectual Property Law and Business Law Sections. His articles have been published in the American Bar Association Journal, the New York State Real Property Law Journal, and the King County Bar Association Bulletin.
