Patent for Original Idea

As a growing business with an original idea, Steve helped us from square one deciding if pursuing a patent was the right idea for us. He showed us the way when laying out the roadmap to success, what costs and timelines we could expect, and even discussed the hurdles of international patenting. Steve kept us well informed through the entire process and was real with us with the challenges we may face including the possibility of rejection. We felt very comfortable with Steve at the helm and he has been an invaluable asset to our team as we will be earning our first patent at the end of December 2022. We will definitely be using Steve again in the future in the event we come up with another original idea.

I am an experienced intellectual property attorney who moved my successful, Lancaster-based solo law practice to Saxton & Stump in 2023. I have been working in patent and trademark law for more than 20 years, obtaining numerous patents and trademarks for my clients. I approach my clients’ legal challenges from a personal perspective of an entrepreneur as the former owner, founder and only attorney at the former Law office of Steven O’Donnell, Ph.D. Using my former company’s “Create. Consult. Control.” mantra, I help businesses realize the value of their intellectual property and to protect it for the success of their company. I have secured patents for inventions as diverse as T-ball equipment for children, a bottle opener, a hydraulic stake puller, a continually operable separation centrifuge, a microbiological waste water treatment device and the chemical synthesis of a plant growth regulator.

In addition to the patents I have already helped my clients secure, I have dozens pending in front of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and also have a large portfolio of trademark registrations and applications under my management. Before I started my solo legal practice in 2009, I worked in cases of complex litigation, focusing on class actions, antitrust and intellectual property.

Patent Issued

We worked with Steve in getting our patent approved for a hydraulic stake puller that we use in our business and market to the rental industry. Steve was timely in his responses to us and diligent in working through all the details throughout the whole process. Gives Lawyers a Good Name

Steve was referred by a top attorney who recommended him above and beyond any other lawyers in this area. He is everything you would want in a lawyer and rarely find. Dedicated, knowledgeable, responsive, compassionate but not wimpy - not one bit. This guy is tough, savvy, bold, to the point and really cares about doing the right thing while abiding by the law. And with good humor. He gave good, sound consistent legal advice - grounded in experience to bring about a speedy resolution to a difficult situation.

Steve got the job done quickly and effectively.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I knew Steve as a non-client prior to hiring him. Still, I'd never needed an attorney for intellectual property work so I was hesitant about my rights and responsibilities (I know nothing about the field, though I am also a lawyer). Steve handled the entire dispute in an expert manner and communicated with my business partner and I every step of the way. I can't recommend Steve enough.
