Sex Crime 75%

I am a leader in Washington in public policy and advocacy for those accused of sex crimes. I have represented thousands of men and women accused of sexual offenses in my career, and have been a member of the Washington Sex Offender Policy Board since 2008. I regularly speak and write on topics related to the representation of sex offenders, setting the standard for effective advocacy in these difficult cases.

Juvenile Law 15%

I work with a large number of juveniles accused of sex offenses in courts around Washington. My work on the Sex Offender Policy Board has involved extensive review of the research, practices and policies in regards to juvenile sex offenders, and I have been involved in several important changes to these laws. I work actively to influence and improve the laws that govern juvenile sex offenders. I speak regularly at conferences and local law schools in regards to public policy in this area.

Child Abuse 5%

My practice focuses largely on defending individuals accused of the sexual or physical abuse of a child. I have extensive experience working with those who are falsely accused, as well as working with those who admit their offenses and hope to obtain a treatment alternative to prison. I have extensive experience trying cases based on false accusations in jury trials. I also know how to prepare a person for a psychosexual evaluation to achieve the best results.

Criminal Defense 5%

I have been working as a criminal defense attorney in a broad range of cases since 1997. My early experience involved a great number of violent and sex offenses, as well as DUIs, drug charges, forgery, theft, burglary and robbery. I have represented several Murder clients, and have tried a First Degree Murder case to a jury. This broad experience informs my more focused practice today in many ways, and gives me a broad understanding of how the system works across the board.

Trusted Brad, Got Burned

I first hired Brad when I faced a serious criminal charge that could have meant prison. He helped me secure a sentence of jail and probation instead. Good job, Brad. Years later, I hired him again when a probation officer tried to revoke my parole. This time, the experience was very different. He ...rushed the job, admitted to violations I had directed him to deny, and submitted a brief with factual errors that I only saw after the fact. His work felt last-minute, and he ignored my clear directions. Bad job, Brad. When I tried to discuss this with him afterward, he dismissed my concerns, told me I was “fighting everyone about everything like Donald Trump,” complained about the time it took to read my letters, and made a snide remark as I left his office. Instead of accountability, I got hostility. I reported him to the Washington State Bar Association, but he avoided consequences by withholding my written instructions and claiming I had changed my mind during a last-minute phone call. Regardless of the Bar’s response, pleading guilty against your client’s wishes is unacceptable. I hired Brad based on his reputation and expertise. He breached my trust. I would not hire him again.

I did my research, and I am glad I did so...

When I walked out to my car to head to work that morning, I had no clue how fast and extreme my life would change when the detective approached my vehicle and asked my name, and asked if I knew a person by their name, and then said she had accused me of sexual assault. And as the detective described ...me in his report, I was in apparent shock. I will not go into specifics about the case, but what I will say is I previously evoked the help of an attorney for help prior to reaching out to Brad Meryhew. That attorney advised me to not talk to the detective, and told the detective to contact him if he had questions. I now realize that was a mistake. As my world was completely flipped upside down I had no idea what was going to happen. I looked into what potential outcomes could be for me and these allegations had the potential to ruin my lie and put me away for a long time. I decided to reach out to some other attorneys. I did my research and talked to a few attorneys. I already knew from my research that Brad was a well respected and knowledgeable who knew exactly how to handle my situation, but what really set him apart was from the first phone call to his office, and through the whole process till the end he, and his team made me feel welcomed, understood, and like a human being, whereas the other firms I contacted did not. Brad knew exactly how to navigate my situation with the precision of a brain surgeon, versus the pediatrician level service I had first obtained. He had the contacts and resources to help me tell my story, and lay out the truth of the situation with proof to back my story when we finally met with the detective for a interview. When all was said and done, the detective stated: "At this point in my investigation, based on interviews, lab testing, phone records, polygraph results, and everything I have learned up to this point, I do not believe I have established probable cause to charge XXXXX with rape charges." Today I have realized it does not take much for someone to make a false accusation against you, and those accusations can come from someone that you never thought would do such a thing, and you may never understand why they would do such a thing. But if they do so, and you find yourself in the same position I found myself in, I highly recommend you call Brad and his team to help you get your side of the story heard. I wish I would of called him from day 1...

So glad to have found Brad Meryhew

A family friend called me distraught several months ago. Their son - young, well behaved, never before in trouble with the law - had been accused of a serious offense. The police were investigating. The family did not speak English and needed help finding a lawyer and interpreting. I had no idea ...what lawyer to suggest. Some I called requested astronomical hourly rates. By grace, I found and suggested Mr. Meryhew. Mr. Meryhew was fair minded in his fee structure, skilled in relating to people even those from a different culture, and a good lawyer. We received good news this morning that the young man is no longer under investigation and the allegations against him were found to be groundless. Thank you to Mr. Meryhew for being an excellent intermediary with the police and for consoling the family with patience during a moment of profound crisis.

Look no further

I cannot say enough good things about our experience with Brad. It was one of the toughest time in our life. Our son's life was in his hands and my wife and I trusted him. Brad is honest, precise, willing to take time to explain us everything in detail and believing in our son. We know we made the ri...ght choice to select his office. Brad and his staff are trustworthy, professional and committed. In the courtroom Brad was excellent presenting the case in a professional and thoroughly prepared manner. Words can not express our deep gratitude and appreciation for the outstanding. We could not ask for any better. If you are in need of legal service look no further.

"Brad is amazing! He is a truly dedicated advocate for juveniles. I had the privedge to hear him speak at a National convention and he taught me more in an hour then I have learned in years of practice. He is insightful, warm, and more importantly very committed to changing the legal system to treat juvenile offenders instead of incarcerating them. I am thoroughly in awe of his dedication."

"I had the pleasure of working for Brad for two years. I found him to be an exceptional trial lawyer who regularly attained exceptional results, a wonderful mentor, and most important, singularly devoted to his clients. Brad lives and breathes his cases because he cannot tolerate the idea of an innocent person, or a person who needs help, being unjustly incarcerated. Protecting the due process rights of those charged with sex offenses is a truly a cause for him. He pours countless hours into representing the defense bar on the Sex Offender Policy Board, and the result is fairer, more just laws that help all of our clients. He is the reason juveniles can now seal their sex convictions. I learned so much about how to help and communicate with my clients from him, and I'm proud to have worked for him and to endorse him."
