Trial Defense Services is free -- and you get what you pay for. Hire Mike.

Working with Mike Berens was one of the best decisions I could’ve made when facing a GOMOR. From day one, he was incredibly responsive, always quick to reply, clear in his communication, and great at keeping me updated on the status of everything. I never felt like I was in the dark or left wondering... what was going on. What really stood out was how sharp and thoughtful he was. Mike didn’t just follow a formula—he took the time to understand my situation and built a rebuttal that felt personal, strategic, and well-argued. You could tell he put in serious hours behind the scenes. His writing was articulate, his arguments were tight, and the overall product was far stronger than anything I’ve seen from military Trial Defense. On top of all that, he’s just a genuinely good person to work with. Personable, honest, and easy to talk to, he made a tough process feel more manageable and gave me confidence the whole way through. Compared to past experiences with TDS, there’s no comparison...Mike was on a different level across the board. If you’re dealing with something as serious as a GOMOR, I can’t recommend him enough.

Mr. Michael J Berens provided outstanding service!

Engaging the services of a reputable attorney can be quite challenging. I retained the services of Mr. Michael Berens, and it proved to be the correct decision in selecting him as my legal counsel. Mr. Berens is a consummate professional who provided expert guidance and counsel in my case against ...my employer. He also assisted me with my appeal and effectively navigated my discrimination complaints. Mr. Berens understanding of the legal process and timely submissions of required documents ensured compliance with federal agencies and enabled my case to move forward. Because of Mr. Berens expertise, I received a favorable decision. If you are looking for a legal counsel, I highly recommend Mr. Berens!

A professional and caring lawyer for our military and their dependents

I had hired Mike Berens to assist me with an EEO complaint because I had previously worked with him as a government representative. During that time, I witnessed his ability to handle complexes where military leaders were unjustly treated or faced unfair outcomes due to others' actions. His expertise... and dedication in those situations made him the clear choice to represent me. From the very beginning, he demonstrated extensive knowledge of the DoD laws and previous court cases had and a deep understanding of how we should proceed with my case. Mike was always communicative, explaining complex legal concepts in a way I could easily understand and keeping me informed every step of the way. I especially appreciated his quick responsiveness to my questions, and his thorough preparation for my case. Thanks to Mike’s dedication and expertise I was able to receive closure. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking a skilled compassionate lawyer.

EXTRODINARY ATTORNEY

Retained Mike to save my nephew and his career in Air Force. My Nephew had exceptional performance and commendations in Air Force for 15 years until he was injured overseas in line of duty. After his injury due to insurgents attacking his plane and explosion sending concrete hitting him in his ...chest fracturing his back. flight surgeon stated he likely just bruised his chest he was OK to proceed with mission. Upon his return to his base in WA he was having problems with his leg walking and pain. He went to medical they said he pulled a muscle gave him muscle relaxer. This went on for over a year until his leg gave out and he fell. He was taken by ambulance to hospital ER in excruciating pain in his spine where doctor advised his back was broken. It was determined his back was fractured in line if duty injury and over time in extreme pain and collapsing his back finally broke. A six hour surgery to repair and put a cage over the injured spine all this could have been avoided if he had had proper medical care at time of his injury. The ongoing pain from this injury my nephew was self medicating with alcohol his command told him to self report and he did and the campaign of harassment started. They immediately took away his responsibilities and his Stripe. Between the pain from his broken back and the harassment by his Command as well as humiliated at loss of his duties and stripe as he was pending going up for Master Sargent we were concerned at his drinking, depression , and he was placed on no less on 8 medications he should not of been on we feared he would take his life. I decided to get him an attorney to put a stop to this harassment that was unrelenting. By grace of God I was referred to Mike he took the case and immediately put a stop to the Command harassment. The battle was just beginning the command then wanted to Court marshal my nephew. Mike went before a Board and won case of the command harassment and improper procedures in treatment of my nephew. Then a new Commander took over took another stripe from my nephew and due to my nephews destroyed mental health and due to drinking was in liver failure locked him up in Brig for 6 months. Then proceeded with court Marshall. At this point my. Nephew was due to retire from military and was entitled to disability. Mike put up an excellent excellent defense at trial and my nephew was able to retire with general discharge snd collect his disability as he is not able to work due to his broken back. This was a long journey but Mike was there every step for my nephew and our family provided he always promptly answered our questions and concerns and checked on the well being of my nephew. His determination and knowledge of law is Extrodinary and his care as a human being for is clients and their families goes above and beyond. If you need an attorney you can't afford not to have Mike I am so thankful we had him. Cannot thank him enough for the great job he did and his integrity as a person as well as an attorney.

If you need help with military law, you need to call Mike!

I was falsely accused of domestic violence by my spouse after I informed their command of their infidelity and suicidal threats. I sought out Mike for his expertise in military law. He consulted with me numerous times and gave me sound, professional advice and peace of mind. He walked me through the ...process, told me what to expect, and was there for me every step of the way and any time that I needed him. He is very knowledgeable, polite, and respectful, and he genuinely wants to help you through what is likely the most difficult and trying time of your life. I highly recommend Mike to anyone dealing with military law or criminal defense.

"Mike is the right kind of lawyer. He is smart, he is thoughtful and deliberate, he is reasonable and fair. I first met Mike when I was legal advisor (judge) on a discharge board and he was the recorder (prosecutor). I was so impressed by his work that when he became available for hire I was very happy he chose the Washington Air National Guard. We now have him part time where he runs the legal office for a large diverse wing. As the HQ JAG I am very confident legal services at the wing are well managed under Mike’s careful, focused eye. You can’t go wrong with Mike."
