WHY ESTATE PLANNING
I have always been a people person and a planner. I don’t view my relationships with clients as a one-time interaction—I want to know when your kids choose a college, when you take a once in a lifetime trip, or when your family experiences a hardship or loss. My hope is to be part of your family for the indefinite future as both your lawyer and your friend, your estate planning counsel should be!
ON PEACEBUILDING AND THE LAW
The law is imperative. It creates order to things that affect our duties and obligations to one another. However, the law doesn’t necessarily always provide a mechanism to ensure parties in a conflict are able to move forward toward a more harmonious future. Peacebuilding fills this gap—the focus is instead on the parties’ future relationship, and not wholly on the grievances of the past for which the law seeks to provide justice.
ESTATE & BUSINESS PLANNING PRACTICE OVERVIEW
My legal practice encompasses all aspects of estate planning, trust administration and probate — from high value estates to small estate transfers and spousal property petitions. I also assist families and individuals with business planning, including entity formation, management, succession planning, and real estate matters. I regularly advise clients in connection with local, state, federal, and international taxation relative to their estate planning needs. With a special focus on charitable planning, I advise clients on the formation and administration of private foundations and non-profit entities. As a skilled mediator, I have amassed more than 300 hours of mediation and negotiation training, both locally and internationally. I'm a volunteer mediator for both state and federal courts, and have participated in peacebuilding processes involving both interpersonal and political conflicts at the community level and on an international scale.
