Biography
At my office, we care about you as a client and as a person. We are dedicated to protecting your freedom and your individual rights. I am a native Californian with family roots in Ventura. I grew up at Lake Tahoe before attending New York University undergrad and Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. In private practice in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties for over seven years, I have developed expertise and experience working within the criminal justice systems of both Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.
Both as a deputy public defender and in private practice, I have represented clients charged with Driving Under the Influence and other driving-related offenses, fraud/ theft, crimes of violence, resisting arrest, and drug crimes including possession for personal use, possession for sale, and transportation, all with excellent results. From dropped special allegations in clients' DUI cases to getting clients residential treatment in lieu of time in prison, we stand by our clients and fight to get them the best results. In recent case victories for clients facing drug-based charges, I successfully argued for a one year residential treatment program for a client instead of close to seven years in prison and, in another case, won my client facing multiple drug-based violations the chance to successfully complete a three month residential drug treatment progam (with 3 month sober living follow-up) in lieu of what would have been a three year prison commitment.
My trial record includes: Hung Jury in favor of the defense for a client charged with Driving Under the Influence in a .11/.12 DUI with an accident (case subsequently dismissed); Hung Jury in favor of the defense for a client charged with Felony Drug Possession and Transportation (case subsequently dismissed); Not Guilty for a client charged with felony domestic violence (jury trial); Not Guilty for a client charged with theft (court trial).
As a Deputy Public Defender in Mendocino County, I gained extensive experience representing clients charged with driving under the influence, drug offenses, domestic violence, theft/fraud, and a wide variety of misdemeanor and felony charges. I also received the "Fly in the Ointment" award from the Mendocino County Criminal Defense Bar Association for tireless advocacy on behalf of my clients.
At my office, we honor the service and sacrifice of members of our U.S. military, enlisted and officers, active duty, reservists, and veterans, with special retainer options. We also believe in supporting legal advocacy on behalf of animals through the Animal Legal Defense Fund and making sure that young people in our community have free access to music education and a positive music-making environment with the Notes for Notes program at our local Ventura Boys and Girls Club.
