Daniel Curtis McCammon

I am a Certified Family Law Specialist and represent clients in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and select matters in the Central Coast and Sacramento area. I work with clients of all background, including business owners, homemakers, those with 7/8 figure wealth, attorneys, doctors, therapists, teachers, and military servicemembers and veterans. I also work with forensic accountants, therapists, mediators, loan officers, real estate agents, and attorneys in other fields to holistically resolve your family law issues.  I have a lot of experience in high conflict custody matters, including domestic and international move away, domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health issues. While I litigate, I settle many of my cases because I maintain good relationships with my fellow family law attorneys, the Court, and other professionals, and work hard to know the facts of your matter so I can quickly work to resolve the matter with your partner/spouse. I strongly believe in the principal of informed consent. You will know where you stand and what decisions you can make so you can make the best choice for yourself and your family.  

I love the practice of family law. I know it's an unwanted service, but one that is necessary. People often come to me when they have been victims of abuse, made personal mistakes that have caused an end of a marriage or relationship, or simply have grown apart. It's hard for many people to let go of the past and the end of the relationship and move forward. That is why I work with a variety of family law related experts (financial planners, forensic accountants, life coaches, real estate professionals and therapists) to help you divide assets, heal, and take control of your future and the legacy you want to leave your loved ones.  

In my spare time, I enjoy the beach, cooking, hiking, reading, travel, and writing.

8/18/2026: Be Careful with Motions:

motions used to allow you to object, on a one-time basis to a Judge appointed to your case (within a required period of time). Many attorneys used those motions when they did not like a Judge or found a Judge to be biased against a man or a woman. However, this practice has become so frequently abused that it has impacted the court's dockets in a way that slows courts from resolving matters. On 5/28/26, J.O. v. Superior Court of San Joaquin County (2026) 19 753, 589 P.3d 822. (“J.O.”), the California Supreme Court decided that this blanket practice would end by allowing the Court or opposing party to object to the motion, and requiring the party requesting the motion to make a prima facie case of a genuine, case-specific belief in judicial bias. Now, a new Judge could rule on your motion, and if you do not meet your burden, your case goes back to the Judge you did not want to hear your case.

Superior Court's throughout California are now issuing new local rules and forms for these motions. I have never liked filing these motions. I probably have done so one or two times in my career. I think this is a sound decision and will prevent judge shopping. I find most Judges to be reasonable people, and we need to do a better job of arguing our cases and pleading our matters.

8/24/26: Who You Choose as Experts Matter:

Last Friday, I spent all day in a private mediation. I didn't finish until 6:30pm! However, I resolved the matter, and I owe quite a bit of that to my expert forensic accountant. My case dealt with business valuations and income available for support, and there was a lot of disagreement over common issues that people spar over in business valuations cases that attorneys deal with, such as reasonable compensation, and whether some perks should be added back to income or instead used to increase the business valuation.

One valuable lesson from that mediation was that it is very important to hire someone who knows the other attorney. Hard work and trust are key components in resolving matters, and having someone that the other attorney uses in other cases and trusts is very helpful in getting cases resolved. In my case, my forensic had reviewed all the business records and done thorough work. The other forensic was competent butt had not prepared as many extensive reports as my forensic. My forensic also had gained the trust of the private judge we used. End result? The case was settled. No one got exactly what we wanted, but it was an acceptable, predictable end result. Surround yourself with the best team you can. That will help you litigate and settle matters for your client. I am very thankful for the experts I use that help my client's resolve their cases.

8/24/26: Reward Yourself After A Long Week:

My reward for a long week? Some people get massages, manicures/pedicures, or go to a bar and have a couple of beers or cocktails. Mine? On Saturday, I dropped my son off at a birthday party at a water park in Ladera and then had some "me" time shopping at Nordstroms and seeing a movie called The End of Oak Street at the Kaleidoscope in Mission Viejo. A very entertaining movie and recharged my batteries after a long week. Watching movies with someone is nice but I've always liked watching a movie alone for some reason. A nice new long sleeve Hugo Boss shirt for myself, and a solo movie adventure. And a drive with conversation about asteroids and tsunamis with my son.
