also known as “Dan”
I am a Certified Family Law Specialist and represent clients in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and select matters in the Central Coast and Sacramento area. I work with clients of all background, including business owners, homemakers, those with 7/8 figure wealth, attorneys, doctors, therapists, teachers, and military servicemembers and veterans. I also work with forensic accountants, therapists, mediators, loan officers, real estate agents, and attorneys in other fields to holistically resolve your family law issues. I have a lot of experience in high conflict custody matters, including domestic and international move away, domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health issues. While I litigate, I settle many of my cases because I maintain good relationships with my fellow family law attorneys, the Court, and other professionals, and work hard to know the facts of your matter so I can quickly work to resolve the matter with your partner/spouse. I strongly believe in the principal of informed consent. You will know where you stand and what decisions you can make so you can make the best choice for yourself and your family.
I love the practice of family law. I know it's an unwanted service, but one that is necessary. People often come to me when they have been victims of abuse, made personal mistakes that have caused an end of a marriage or relationship, or simply have grown apart. It's hard for many people to let go of the past and the end of the relationship and move forward. That is why I work with a variety of family law related experts (financial planners, forensic accountants, life coaches, real estate professionals and therapists) to help you divide assets, heal, and take control of your future and the legacy you want to leave your loved ones.
In my spare time, I enjoy the beach, cooking, hiking, reading, travel, and writing.
4/17/26: It Matters Greatly To Gain Respect From Your Judge:
This has been a very busy week. I recently completed a long trial, and we were able to mostly settle the matter. The Court would frequently encourage the parties to settle, and specifically mentioned the way I was handling the trial and called me pleasure to work with despite the difficult subject matter. It went a long way to easing the tension of the case so that we could resolve as many of the issues as possible. There was no shouting, no arugments, no disrespect. Just efficiency, being straightforward with the client, and respectful to the bench and everyone involved. How you work a case matters. Next? Going to finish Lightbreakers. Have a good weekend!
4/19/26: Lightbreakers: An Exploration of Quantum Physics, Love, Loss, and Finding a Way to Live:
Lightbreakers is a novel about a scientist that finds himself continuously lost in the pain of the death of his 3-year-old daughter who died of a health condition he didn't know about. This causes a ripple effect in his life, he gets divorced, then remarries, but still feels a void from the death of his daughter and later takes a job with a secret company that has technology that allows him to go back in time. It's a book about how our consciousness in quantum physics can travel back in time from our memories. For him, he naturally wants to go back in time to try to prevent his daughter's death. He visits her. He gets lost in his grief again, and gets his ex-spouse to visit the child, and his wife. He nearly loses himself trying to re-save her. However, instead of saving her, he becomes more concerned about the company's ability to use the technology to change history at large, and destroys the machine used to take his consciousness back in time. Think of Back in the Future II, and how going back in time can change the future.
It's a pretty good book. The ending was not as strong as it could have been. It really tried to tie together science with our emotions. Our need to closure and how we constantly go back to our most important memories. Everyone goes back to their most important memories. Graduation. Birth of children, committing to someone, to the traumatic ones where you find out someone you loved died, a breakup, etc. Another theory of the book is that people don't really let go, because memories always remain. I agree with that. People do not let go. They just keep going and live with the good, bad, and trauma. We call it "letting go" to make ourselves feel good. But in reality, we don't. We are just live. I agree with that part. But not wanting to tell your former self or someone in that time what hidden heart disorder your 3-year-old child had? I can't believe that I wouldn't want to do that. Everyone would want that. I can think of many things you would want to change in the past. Telling a friend that you knew that was going to die in a car crash to avoid that intersection. Or, the last evening you were with someone, and you knew they were lying to you about everything, but you were too afraid to call them out on it and broke up with them by text the next day instead of trying to talk through it. Telling yourself back in time to plan for, and to study harder for a test that you did not pass because you were not focused enough. A lot of reasons to go back in time, if you could. Quantum physics is a very deep, interesting area of science. There is research out now that suggests that our consciousness outlives our body. That what goes in black holes (Lightbreakers) goes into another a dimension (white hole). There is so much we do not know about the universe. Someday, maybe technology will evolve in that way. For now, our minds will frequently takes us to our past memories. And we must cherish the good memories, mourn the losses, navigate pain, and find a way to live day by day. I would have written the book differently. Someone doesn't go back in time, bring their Ex and Spouse back in time to do nothing! Save your daughter, save your friend, talk to your partner about why she lied and fix it instead of running away, and be better to your kids. Then destroy the machine. Saving a child, a friend, saving a relationship or ending it with more dignity won't change the world at large. 3.5 out of 5 rating.
4/20: Week Ahead:
Long week. Finish a trial on Wednesday with trial prep tomorrow. Thursday and Friday catchup work and preparation for a big hearing next week. This month I've retained some very difficult cases including taking on a trial a few days before the start date. May not be able to take on new matters until next week.
2) Love, loss and pain are the most complex of feelings. Love can make you hold on forever. Loss makes you long for what you once had, miss or yearn for that fir what you had again. The pain loss causes makes you stay away because you worry you cannot take anymore pain. Opposite forces that people feel when they lose someone they love, through death, end of marriage, or other reasons.
I yearn for a world full of love, without pain or as little pain as possible, and not to cause pain.
