My situation was somewhat unique in that I had been divorced already for 7 years. I have three kids and my ex wife lives within a mile of me. She hired an attorney and then filed for a child support modification with outrageous demands. I had no choice but to hire an attorney and so I set out to inte...rview several. After speaking to several attorneys and not really sure who to hire, I lastly met with Brett. One of the first things that impressed me about Brett was that family law is the only law that he practices; it is what he specializes in. Other attorneys practice multiple types of law. Listening to the way he was going to approach my case made it very obvious to me at that moment to hire him on the spot. Aside from that, I got a great sense that Brett was a real person. He is a great listener, very compassionate and aggressive at the same time. He truly knows the law in our county and along with his amazing team, worked tremendously hard on my case. I truly believe that the opposing counsel was overwhelmed at the iron clad case that Brett put together on my behalf. We ended up settling everything without having to go too far through the system. My review is written from a spouse’s perspective. Although my husband was the client, I was authorized to share in communications and help facilitate information where I could. Our first experience with a family law attorney had been absolutely disastrous and resulted in dead beat Dad wage garnishmen...ts in a very unfair amount and loss of 50-50 custody. Although there was solid proof that my husband had never been a deadbeat Dad, this attorney had no interest in fighting it and claimed that California law is so biased towards mothers you just have to accept it. After relaying frustration to this former attorney, he simply stopped working on the case although he never informed us of the fact and continued to bill us for over a year. Needless to say when we discovered the state of things, we were very gun shy and worried about hiring another attorney to clean up his mess. We wanted someone who actually had a moral compass, strong integrity and someone who would not tolerate the type of bullying and lies perpetuated by the ex-wife over the last many years. Because faith is an important part of our life we looked for an attorney who shared similar beliefs and were recommended to Brett Wishart by a family member. During the initial consultation, Mr. Wishart was very upfront with us that he was not a Barracuda but would fight aggressively for what was fair and in the best interests of both my husband and his son. This was all that we had ever wanted in the first place so it seemed like a great match. After hiring Mr. Wishart he got down to business and pushed through the original paperwork that our former attorney had been sitting on. He then turned his attention to $15,000 of overpayments my husband had been forced to make to his ex-wife. He was able to get this money credited back to my husband. He also protected my Husband aggressively when he was laid off from work. Although the ex-wife had gotten remarried and was living a very affluent lifestyle, in severe contrast to our own, she felt the need to come after my husband’s small amount of severance and unemployment. Brett was able to minimize all of this and also squashed her crazy attempt to force my husband to work two jobs simply because he had done it ten years ago during their marriage. My husband related to me that Brett was amazing in court and that he didn’t back down when the ex-wife and her new spouse were making demands and claiming that everything was unfair to them. The best part of the court visit apparently occurred when my husband overheard the ex-wife’s attorney telling her client that Brett Wishart was a renowned attorney and not to think that she could push him around like the last one. We have another court case coming up this Summer where support will have to be recalculated due to new employment. Brett was very reassuring that this time around, we would be on the offensive for the first time instead of the past decade of my husband getting mowed over in court. We have seen Brett’s business grow since we hired him and we believe he is very successful for solid reasons, because of his integrity, skill in the courtroom and sense of fairness. We are incredibly grateful that we have his counsel and protection and will remain his clients for the long term. We would not hesitate to recommend his services to anyone who is looking for an honest and reliable attorney.
