Vernon Louis Ellicott

I held back from reviewing this attorney following him sending me threats about other reviews, from other people. Quite frankly, I’ve lost sleep at night having not reviewed him. My experience with Vernon was anything but acceptable - and., (in fear of someone else being taken advantage of) it’s impo...rtant for me to review him. I contracted his services last April for a paternity case - I was/am the defendant in the matter. Throughout our (short) term together Mr Ellicott repeatedly failed to address my concerns. He was quite confident that we would win. Following the first hearing, the custody orders were in my daughters best interest. 3-4 months after the first hearing Vernon told me that it would be unlikely for the judge to change the orders. He also told me that the opposing counsel is self represented; and that there is hardly anything that can be done to where the orders would be changed at the following hearing. Ten minutes before the next hearing, I watched my ex walk in with an attorney who immediately greeted Vernon and said, “ it’s SO good to finally meet you” alluding to having spoken to him prior… she then slips him a piece of paper which he would not disclose to me. When the hearing began, the judge started speaking about points which were not in the opposing team’s declaration. I “nudged” Vernon and tapped him… he kept “nodding” as if he was going to address the discrepancy. He then began to “nudge” me each time the judge would ask a question, because he forgot nearly everything regarding my case. The points which the judge declared were unfamiliar to me; and lies. Turns out The opposing party filed a response seven days before the hearing and I assume that is what his attorney passed Vernon ten min before that hearing. We lost every.single.part of that hearing. Timeshare; holidays; communications; you name it, we lost. Immediately following the hearing I asked Vernon why didn’t disclose the declarationy ex filed; and why he didn’t stand up to the lies and false allegations. Without answering my question, he told me “this is where our journey ends” I reminded him he still has a contract to complete - which he acknowledged. Days following this hearing, my ex withheld my child while she was severely ill. When I contacted Vernon to send an ex parte warning letter to my ex’s attorney, he wrote back stating “kids adapt” and then sent a “sub attorney” form followed with threats over filing a relieve of motion if I did not sign. Under duress, I signed the form. He did not complete our contract before he forced mw fo so this; which caused a significant financial loss on my part. He also is choosing not to refund me; but seems to be offering refunds out like candy on Yelp. He has since then continued to ignore my request for a refund and is now harassing me over other bad reviews stating he is going to “unleash nuclear litigation” on me and that “if I thought my paternity case was a pain, wait until you see what I have in store for you” He tells me things like this. Repeatedly. Despite my many replies stating I have no reviewed him more than once and that the reviews are not from me. In short: I hired Vernon; had 30% of my timeshare taken away…. Lost a ton of money…. And im now in a position where the opposing counsel is taking significant advantage of my lack of resources. My daughter is the most important person in the world to me. Vernon knows that. I was extremely upset with myself for having trusted him. He clearly doesn’t care about people’s lives. He doesn’t care about anything but money. That was my experience. I truly hope he has since then changed his ways and that he will one day do what is right and refund me the money he owes. I am also in the process of filing a complaint through the bar. I would suggest hiring anyone but him. Good luck!
