The Right Stuff

I'm one of those old school guys who has ran a business on a handshake and some basic guidelines. I've paid my employees very well, been very kind to them and paid them like my contemporaries have. After getting my first letters from the Labor Commissioner, I got some real bad advice too. After the R...etaliation guy called me, I was standing over a cliff watching 30 years of work ready to go crashing down. After searching the web and making a few phone calls, Lisa Sherman was the attorney I hired. I liked that I actually talked to the owner. This is not a story that was going to have a happy ending. Lisa was very up front about that. This was about knowing the system, how to deal with all parties involved and create a scenario where we could reach a reasonable settlement rather than letting this go all the way forward. Lisa let me do some ground work. We met and came up with a game plan. She communicated well, keeping me in the loop. Settlement day came and when she went into action it was impressive. Calm, cool and collected, Lisa presented the numbers. She found an obscure formula that calculated overtime for piecework employees that saved me a lot of money. Lisa knew how she wanted this scenario to play out and willed it to happen. In 45 minutes it was over with everyone smiling. We reached a reasonable settlement and had a great weight lifted off my shoulders. Lisa works tirelessly, is knowledgeable and patient. I found her to be a person who knew how something was going to play out and used her skill and expertise to make it happen. Lisa will be a good resource going forward also. Guess I have learned that staying in business is as important as being in business. I would recommend Lisa Sherman in a heartbeat.

Chief Engineer

When my attorney was unable to take a deposition of a third party in my litigation case last year, Lisa stepped in at the last minute. I was so impressed by her knowledge of my case, the legal issues, and how effectively she deposed the third party witness whose admissions turned out to be critical... to my case. Soon after, opposing counsel, two attorneys from a large law firm, started inundating my attorney, Pam, with lots of motions while tying her up all day in depositions that were far from her office. Thankfully, Pam asked Lisa to assist and join her as co-counsel on my case. It turns out that because of Lisa’s extensive experience litigating my legal issues on behalf of employers, she was the perfect fit to join our team. Lisa was critically important in defeating my employer’s motions for summary judgment, not to mention, all of the emergency motions and pre-trial filings that followed. Even when there were a lot of unanticipated setbacks, Lisa always stayed positive and successfully adjusted our strategy. After our judge issued a 43 page single-spaced order denying my employer’s motion for summary judgment, the win was short-lived because my employer quickly filed a motion for reconsideration which was granted before my attorneys even had a chance to respond. Lisa spearheaded the efforts to seek emergency relief which ultimately resulted in reinstating all of my claims for trial. While my case was resolved the week before trial, I know that Lisa’s contributions to my case were instrumental. If you are considering whether to retain Lisa, look no further. Eric B.
