I highly recommend Matthew Cohen

Very impressive work! He responds quickly and gives the best advices. I am glad I hired him to handle my case. He did an amazing job and got it dismissed very fast.

First Offender

If you are going through a tough time and need an attorney, Mathew Cohen of the law firm of Hart Levin is the best you can get. He's knowledgeable, caring, very compassionate and very affordable. I had never been through a DUI situation before. I was scared, embarrassed and didn't know what to do.... I looked up the best DUI lawyers in Los Angeles and Hart Levin was the first firm that came up. Within a few minutes I received a return call from Mathew Cohen. Immediately he sensed the fearful state I was in and put me at ease. He was so gracious with me I decided to hire him on the spot. I explained to him what had happened. I was returning from a party where I had a few drinks and I got stopped randomly. The crazy thing is if I know that I'm going to have something to drink I always take an Uber. This was the one time I didn't! Go figure. He worked with me and took care of me all through the case. I didn't even have to appear in court. Mathew went in for me. As a first time offender he got me the best result I could possibly get. He also gave me his personal cell phone so I could call him at anytime if I had questions. If he didn't pick up right away he would always call me back in a few minutes. No question was too dumb for him. Mathew is one great attorney. I believe he was sent to me by God to help me through and very scary and difficult situation. I'll be eternally grateful to him. Thank you Mathew!

Excellent lawyer. Excellent firm.

A wonderful experience considering the mess I got myself into. The Law Offices of Hart J. Levin were so incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and efficient- I recommend them to anybody who unfortunately finds themselves facing a DUI offense in Los Angeles. Not only were they professional but also extrem...ely kind during the whole process. They were always reachable and able to answer my questions (which at times were extensive) and completely honest and upfront with everything. Matthew Cohen was a delight to work with and always approachable, friendly, and very smart. He was not only able to drop my felony arrest charge to a misdemeanor but also got the DA to agree to no jail time in exchange for community service and AA meetings. I write this review four years after my arrest with even more great news... Matthew just got my DUI expunged and my case dismissed. Terrific lawyers, a terrific firm, and I could not be more pleased with the results. Highly recommended.

Can’t Get Any Better!

Take a deep breath. The reason you’re reading these reviews is because you’re in a pickle. STOP READING THE INTERNET, PICK UP THE PHONE, AND CALL THIS OFFICE. You will continue to drive yourself crazy and trust me, all the mail you are about to receive can go right in the trash because your lawyer is.... Right. Here. This review is for my lord and savior, Mr. Matthew Cohen. If you do not hire Matthew and his team, you are doing yourself the biggest disservice of your life. Here’s how it works: you call and you get THIRTY minutes to talk to the smartest and most intelligent lawyer for whatever it is you just did. For free. FOR FREE?! Yes. And then you decide ‘YES! I’m obviously hiring Matthew because that one avvo review (this one) convinced you that this is the right thing to do.’ Then, you figure out payment options. Listen to me! I’m poor and I did it! YOU CAN DO IT TOO. THIS PRICE IS A STEAL. Then you probably sit on your couch and cry yourself to sleep like I did and wait a while for them to call you. This is normal. They are busy behind the scenes probably busting down doors at the DMV or the police station doing what they do best. Don’t worry. Someone from the office emails you to collect payment. Pay. I recommend charging it and also getting all of the associated points from your credit card company. Might as well get something positive out of this horrible situation. You’ll talk to some people from his office. I talked to Jenn. She’s just the best. She gave me updates and helped me through such a non-standard case. I mean, it was probably pretty standard, but I did have a few moving scenarios and an early DMV suspension. She did all my DMV work, answered all my questions, and assured me in my time of need. Pro tip- Stay off the internet, folks! Just ask them! Googling scenarios is going to drive you crazy. Just. Ask. Jenn!!! Then... the THING happens. You know, the thing you’ve been waiting for. And it’s scary. But again, you’re in the best hands. Matthew, first and foremost, gets it. He wants to know facts and then he tells you straight forward how this is going to go. Matthew knows the laws. He understands what you’re going through. He will do everything in his power to get you the best possible scenario. And that’s what he did for me. Like, literally, THE BEST POSSIBLE CASE SCENARIO. My only complaint was that he didn’t call me sooner once he obtained the best plea deal ever. I am not joking when I say a weight was lifted off my shoulders. I was so stressed, the tension caused me to pinch a nerve in my neck. His news legitimately healed me. (My lord and savior, Matthew!) So again, take a deep breath, pick up the phone and make the only smart decision you’ve made recently. Hire Matthew Cohen.

Priceless results from Matthew Cohen

I needed to resolve an old DUI charge and thought I could represent myself. After speaking to various people who said they ended up in jail, serving time, for an old DUI charge, I realized I shouldn't try to represent myself. I hired Matthew Cohen and I was extremely happy with the results. I had... lots of questions for Matthew and he was always patient and clearly explained what would happen at each court date. He was able to avoid a DUI conviction and I can now go get my license. Thanks Matthew for your time and helping me not get convicted of a DUI charge!!! He truly did impress me.

"I endorse this lawyer. I have known attorney Matthew Cohen for many years now. He's very honest, straight forward, and a really good attorney. I've seen him in court numerous times, as he zealously advocated for his clients, and knows how to handle himself in the courtroom. He is more than competent, and is one of the few attorneys in my belief that truly cares about his clients. So much so that I have personally referred cases to him, as I know he is more than capable in handling any criminal defense matter. If you have him as your attorney, just know you are in great hands."

"Matthew Jeremy Cohen is a rising star in the LA criminal defense scene. He truly listens to his clients and then works hard to achieve their goals. He realizes that getting results in criminal court requires thinking outside the box and his ability to get things done for his clients is miles ahead of many lawyers who have 10 years or more of criminal defense experience. If results matter to you and you are facing a criminal charge, he is the right guy to have on your team"

Relationship: Supervised lawyer

"Matthew Cohen is a superb and caring attorney. He is invested in his work as a defense attorney and is passionate about defending his clients. From work in the law, to family and friends, Matthew is an honorable and dedicated attorney. The low AVVO rating and the caution about his State Bar discipline arose from an incident shortly after graduating law school more than a decade ago, where he was unsupervised and untutored in a not well known area of law. Not only did he face up to his mistake and make it up to the client, but he has proven to the State Bar that he is worthy of his license to practice. He has worked very hard to put his unfortunate past behind him and has grown significantly from the experience. I believe firmly that that experience has improved his ability to bring empathy to the job and he works hard every day to make sure he is doing exactly what is needed for his clients... And I supervise him."

This sanction means the attorney lost his or her license to practice law for a period of time. The attorney typically returns to practicing law when the suspension expires.

Matthew’s comment:

“The discipline occurred when first licensed and practicing Intellectual Property Law. Afterward, I have spent many years being properly trained as a criminal defense attorney and have been successfully practicing criminal defense without issue for over fifteen years.”

  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline
This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority in 2003
