Fantastic Attorney

Matthew Cohen did a fantastic job. He answered my questions in a timely manner and kept me updated with the progress in my hit and run case. I highly recommend him.

BEST. LAWYER. EVER.

My husband and I were faced with the unthinkable a few months back. He was involved in a fender-bender car accident, and then arrested on suspicion of a DUI, despite blowing/testing below the legal limit. I can't emphasize enough what an unimaginable experience it was for he and our family. We knew v...ery little about the criminal justice system from this perspective, and felt incredibly confused and lost. How do I bail him out of jail? How will I contact him? How long will he be in there for? After trying to manage things on my own the first day, I decided it would be best to secure a private attorney whose expertise could help us through the trauma. As an avid Yelper, I took to Yelp to search for a top notch lawyer. Low and behold, I found The Law Offices of Hart J. Levin, with several 5-star reviews. Yelp led me to their company website, where I researched their credibility. I further researched their lawyers, and decided it would be a great decision to go with this firm. I called the office, and was immediately met with warmth and sympathy by someone I assume was an administrative assistant. I explained my situation, and was transferred to speak with one of their senior attorneys, Matthew Cohen. After connecting with Matthew, I explained the circumstances, after which he explained what the process could look like for my husband, and what the process could look like if/when I were to secure him as our attorney. Matthew was reassuring, empathic, and knowledgeable. He advised me to take some time to think about it, and to call him back at his cell phone once I was ready to make a decision. Before deciding to secure Matthew as our attorney, I continued to check on my husband's inmate status online, and was shocked when I saw his status change to "no bail". I called Matthew in a panic and described the details of the odd change, after which he researched, and told me he would make a phone call to the jail warden and investigate. He called me back within minutes, telling me it was fixed, and that the jail had assigned a different inmate's information to my husband's record in error. He had them correct the error, and advised me to proceed with securing bail. I was already working with a bail agency, otherwise, he would have helped me with that process as well. I was floored that Matthew helped us with this situation, before I even secured him as our attorney, and before I even paid him a dime. I knew at that point, he was the right guy. After multiple terrifying and confusing phone calls with my husband, and learning how to navigate the terribly slow and archaic LA County jail system, my husband was finally bailed out of jail. We immediately called Matthew, who instantly began working on our case. Anytime we had questions, he was ready and willing to help. Matthew took care of EVERYTHING for us. We never had to step inside a courtroom. In fact, Matthew was able to bring the Felony DUI charge to a complete dismissal/rejection. NO charges ended up being filed! We were extremely grateful, and BLOWN AWAY. Needless to say, we feel indebted to Matthew for his dedication, skills, and empathy. The least we can do, is write this review for him and encourage many others in similar situations to trust Matthew and his office. He will truly fight for you. Thank you to The Law Offices of Hart J. Levin, and thank you Matthew Cohen specifically, for putting up a fight and sparing us from additional grief.

"I endorse this lawyer. I have known attorney Matthew Cohen for many years now. He's very honest, straight forward, and a really good attorney. I've seen him in court numerous times, as he zealously advocated for his clients, and knows how to handle himself in the courtroom. He is more than competent, and is one of the few attorneys in my belief that truly cares about his clients. So much so that I have personally referred cases to him, as I know he is more than capable in handling any criminal defense matter. If you have him as your attorney, just know you are in great hands."

"The area of immigration law, in which I practice, and criminal defense, in which Mr. Cohen practices often intersect and I have been fortunate to work with Mr. Cohen on several cases. He has always proven to be a diligent, thoughtful, and intelligent advocate for his clients and I endorse him and his work without reservation."

"Matthew Jeremy Cohen is a rising star in the LA criminal defense scene. He truly listens to his clients and then works hard to achieve their goals. He realizes that getting results in criminal court requires thinking outside the box and his ability to get things done for his clients is miles ahead of many lawyers who have 10 years or more of criminal defense experience. If results matter to you and you are facing a criminal charge, he is the right guy to have on your team"

Relationship: Supervised lawyer

"Matthew Cohen is a superb and caring attorney. He is invested in his work as a defense attorney and is passionate about defending his clients. From work in the law, to family and friends, Matthew is an honorable and dedicated attorney. The low AVVO rating and the caution about his State Bar discipline arose from an incident shortly after graduating law school more than a decade ago, where he was unsupervised and untutored in a not well known area of law. Not only did he face up to his mistake and make it up to the client, but he has proven to the State Bar that he is worthy of his license to practice. He has worked very hard to put his unfortunate past behind him and has grown significantly from the experience. I believe firmly that that experience has improved his ability to bring empathy to the job and he works hard every day to make sure he is doing exactly what is needed for his clients... And I supervise him."

This sanction means the attorney lost his or her license to practice law for a period of time. The attorney typically returns to practicing law when the suspension expires.

Matthew’s comment:

“The discipline occurred when first licensed and practicing Intellectual Property Law. Afterward, I have spent many years being properly trained as a criminal defense attorney and have been successfully practicing criminal defense without issue for over fifteen years.”
